16" to 17"

a while ago i took the 16" v6 rims off my car and put on my brothers 17" stock 04 gt rims (he bought 18's) i was woundering how much the speedometer would be off (i assumed not much but am not sure) there is a web site that calculates this for you does anyone no what it is. i got it one time but dont remember it. thanx in advance.

I went from 16 to 18. I have a 285 tire now, but I'm not sure what the stock tire height is. Anyway, my speedo is around 5mph slower.

I've used that, and it was actually wrong. I should be in the neighborhood of 10-15 mph over, and that's not the case.

if the tires on your wheels were factory sizes, and the tires on the 17's are factory sizes, there should be little to no difference. or you can check out tires.com, look at the tire calculator.

If the tire diamater is the same as the 16" then there is going to be no change, I ahve the diablosport and all i need to plug in is just the new tire diameter, and it does the rest, if there is a bigger or smaller difference in the tire diameter your speedometer will be off exponetially, my friend told me his brothers jeep had like 22" tires or some crap and he installed 34"+ and didn't change the speedometer, and so when it showed 50 they were actually going 70...

When upgrading to larger wheels, you should try to stay as close as possible to stock tire height. The vehicle was designed around that specific tire height after all. Why mess with gearing, brakes, suspension, odometer and speedometer? Most good wheel shops will only sell you tires that are close to stock height. This tire calculator recommends staying within 3% of stock tire height. In my opinion, the closer the better.
