Fuel Pump Problems ???

My 99 GT has gave me problems a couple times this week not wanting to start. It will start, and sputter a couple times and then die. After switching the key on and off, sometimes a dozen times, it will start and run fine...................I kept checking the fuel pressure today by turning the key on, then I would relieve the pressure and check again later. A couple times I was getting 10 psi. A couple times it read 30 psi, and after that I was getting 40 psi everytime. So I am thinking my pump maybe on its way out, but Id like to hear some input from others who know more than I before I spend $200.00 on a pump............Thanks

did you change the filter ? they say 30 lbs is fine , unless the sock in the tank is clogged I would change the filter first

Yep. changed filter Monday..................problems started tuesday. It may or may not be a coincidence

Ok so you changed the filter then the problem occurred?? Double check your install.
Also 200 bucks for a pump is nuts it's a 99 right? returnless fuel system? If so just get a svt focus pump they are usually right at 100 bucks and flow alot more fuel than the stock one if you do in fact need a new fuel pump.

its a motorcraft installed correctly.

bought a new fuel filter some years back as always I blew thru it ..coudnt ? went back & the guy in the store said the skells bring back dirty filters & say they picked up the wrong one ? honest he said it became such a problem they started opening returned items & caught 5 guys in one week after that the word got out & it seemed to slow up but it didnt stop ...so you never know .....
