im pretty sure you dont have to remove your transmission my starter bolts thourgh a metal gasket like piece that is inbetween the block and bellhousing then into the transmission housing i have to remove three bolts then the starter comes right here is an article about removing a t-45 from a 99 cobra has lots of details i found it very helpful.... hope this helps you http://mysite.verizon.net/txsnakecharmer/trans.htm

yes you do have to remove the starter because its connected by 3 bolts to the bell housing on the t-45...just removed mine about 2 months ago. The haynes manual doesnt show that but it is necessary. The top bolt is hard to get at so take your time and be patient. Also i left the top bolt of the 3 kind of loose so i wouldnt have to work as hard if i had to remove the tranny or starter again.
