I am looking for a supercharger kit or turbo kit for my 2001 mustang gt conv. with manual trans. If anyone has one or knows of one thats under 2000 I will consider. Just looking for extra horsepower. Does any one know how much horsepower the stock gt engine will hold or handle? Thanks

I would do nitrous if you want to be under $2000. If you can afford it get the MPH Mongoose kit that come with EVERYTHING you need for $3800, including a dead on tune. Its almost impossible to get a SC for $2000 and if you do there is prolly something wrong with it or missing a buch of stuff.

As fas a nitrous you can get a kit with everything you need minus tune for about $1500. Run a 100 shot on it and have amazing power and torque.

Also stock 4.6 can handle about 400-450 rwhp safely with a good tune. Anyhing more is pushing it.

For a blower, you are going to be looking more at around 3K or more for the 4.6, turbo alittle more then that. I would also maybe consider a nitrous kit, if you just want the extra power for the track, or only once in awhile. Which then you could really have it up and running for about a grand give or take a couple hundred on average.

^ +1 I have about the same in my turbo setup, and I bought MOST of the parts off EBAY BTW (not retail or it would have been MUCH more)....so yea turbo or S/C shouldnt be considered. You COULD peice togethor a cheap turbo kit...I think Ricky Bobby has done this for a few people.
But the problem is all of the parts you will want to get for safety and reliability. Gauges, clutch, fuel system, dyno tune, ect. No matter what, your going to spend some serious cash with the S/C or turbo setup.

BIG +1 on the N20....ONLY go with the NX kit with the safety upgrades though. Its the best out there from what I have seen. Just do some searching, and you will find ALL the info you need on this site.

You won't find a new kit for under 2 grand. Even a used kit is hard to find for under 2 grand. With a used kit you will probably spend 2500-3500 dollars (including a tune/pump/injectors). A new kit will cost even more. Our stock block can handle 400-450whp with a great tune. But that is no guarentee. Get the car compression tested before you even THINK about buying a SC.

I would suggest turbo if money wasn't a factor. Making your own kit requires a LOT of knowledge and a lot of luck. If you are looking for a SC for under $2K, I have a Vortech V-2 SQ that has 8K miles on it. Comes with a few different pulleys, the bracket, intake, belt, and boost pipe. PM me if you are interrested.

Right now I have a full exhaust(Borla and bbk) and a couple of minor mods. I was just looking for some extra power and from what i hear a supercharger is the way to go. Ricky Bobby, I am interested with the kit. If ya can send pics, send them to [email protected]. Also what else will I need to complete the kit? Also i was thinking a cam. What is recommended for both sound and performance? Any other minor mods does anyone reccomned to increase horsepower? Thanks for the help, I just want to beable to hold my ground on the road.

If you go the SC route you will need the following:
255LPH fuel pump
42# injectors (I have a used set 8K miles on them too)
Programmable chip
Custom tune

Things that will help (in order from most noticable to least noticable differance)
Gears 3.73's
Big sticky tires
Cams

I will email pix soon.

Cams are not needed...you will just have to detune your engine because they produce ALOT of extra power....more than your stock shortblock can handle. Its really kindof a waste of money unless you plan on going with a forged engine soon :nice: .

And so you know, the fuel pump RB is probably refring too is the SVT focus unit (which actually flows like 23X I think). Curious, do NOT confuse what RB is talking about with the 255LPH unit from walbro...im sure Ricky knows just as well as the rest of us that those Walbro pumps have a high failure rate accross the boards. :nice:

You really have 3 choices inorder from least flow- greatest....SVT focus, SVT cobra pump, or Ford GT fuel pump. First 2 should drop right in...GT requires a bit of modification :)
