Water Temp Sending Unit

Want to start by saying this is my first post... I've always been able to do a search and get the info I need on here but can't find help for this.

Here is my problem. I just installed an Edelbrock Performer 289 intake and can't get the water temp sending unit to thread. I bought a new unit and it fits in the intake but won't thread. Is it ok to re-thread the aluminum intake to make it work? How can I keep the shavings from getting into the intake?

Here are my vitals: 65 coupe, 289 C-code, in the process of doing a 2bbl to 4bbl swap, C-4 Tranny, Tri-Y Headers, American Thunder Exhaust

The threads don't 'mesh' so the probe won't screw into the intake? Sounds like you might need an adapter between the intake and probe. I had to use one and got it at Ace Hardware. I forget the size, but keep the adapter short to keep the probe in the intake.

Thats exactly the problem. The threads won't mesh or bite. I tried to find an adapter at Advance but didn't have any luck.

Try another store w/more adapters. Buy a few, use the one you need and take back the ones you don't. Maybe someone knows the size and can help better than me?

I had to buy a different sized sending unit (can't remember the sizes between the old and new one) when I installed my performer.
