So with the headers im gettin a new clutch put in, and ive been held up cause i cant decide wheather i want a STG 1 or 2 SPEC clutch. I will not be doing any more performance mods to this car for a long time, so keep that in mind. This car is goin away with me to finish up college for the next (up to 3 years). i need it do be as DD able as possible, and to hold up and be reliable. So basically, i would like the lighest pedal effort, and the saving of $100 isnt bad either. I dont cheap out tho when it comes to the stang at all, and i never will, its just that why should i get a stronger one if i dont need it? thats what im thinkin / wondering if itl be beneficial. also, what should i do about the flywheel. My performance shop will resurface it for $35, or i can get a steel one, which is $235.. again, more $$ i dont want to spend, but if "necessary", i will. thanks :SNSign:

My friend has a 95 firebird with a spec stage 3, and his pedal effort didn't increase much but his friction point was cut down to bout a quarter of what it was before. Thing grabs like no other now though and guaranteed to chirp the tires through third gear. I have drove it once and i did not like how+ the friction zone was so touchy. Like it was engaged or it wasn't, no slipping at all. As far as if it is necessary to get a stage 2 over a stage 1 i would say it depends how you drive your car. If your doin a lot of high rpm drops then a stronger clutch would never hurt but one thing i would keep in mind is that a clutch that grabs harder means it puts more wear and tear on your tranny and rearend.

i have a DF Centerforce sitting at home waiting to be installed. I heard that SPEC clutches were iffy on quality so I decided to spend a bit more up front to potentially save myself money later on. Also the pedal feel on the DF is suppose to be better than stock. I guess I will find out. I have LT's so I don't feel like redoing this job if I dont have to.

You might want to think of dropping the extra dough now so you dont have to replace a crappy clutch later on.

Man ive got a 2000 gt with a spec stage 3 and i love it. Great at the track and very streetable. I used the stock flywheel and had it machined and i love it.I know i could have got a flywheel but i was out of money. I think the spec stage 3 was like around 300.

thats good and all.. but i dont think i wana get any more than i need. These parts are designed for certain power levels, so whatever your level is, thats what you should get. correct me if im wrong. only time i would think to go bigger and better is when ull need it down the road. anyways, more feedback on spec's if anyones still around..

well as somebody said in your thread.. that dosent include the flywheel? i ask because i didnt look into it, but resurfacing a flywheel compared to buying a new stocker is basically the same thing. im wondering about the steel ones tho, but just dont think its worth it. as far as a new clutch and TOB, if thats what you want than itl work great. they work fine for 100K miles the first time, why wouldnt they do it again? i do make a bit more power so im going toward the aftermarket, but i dont want to over estimate and be stuck with a stiff and choppy clutch.

I've had a Centerforce Dual Friction clutch in my car when it was at 290rwhp and I really liked it. It didn't fail but when I changed the motor and put the blower on I changed to a Spec Stage 3 and a new flywheel to handle the torque. The Spec Stage 3 didn't las't 4 months and it blew up. My parts dealer said they have had nothing but problems with Spec's failing as of late. I guess it never used to happen but lately the quality has really slipped it seems. I just got a Mcleod this week, it's going in this Friday. I've been told they are the best on the market for both quality and warrentee.
