Custom Headliner Ideas?

Ok, I will be welding in a cage so I do not want the stock headliner in the car. It will be a PIA to keep looking good and it would be hell if I had to replace it.

So I was wondering if anyone had/has any ideas to make the roof look good? I seen on "pimp my ride" they fiber glassed the roof of a cougar by flipping it upside down on a rotissorie. Has anyone done this or seen it in person? I have a rotissorie so thats not a problem. I just wouldnt want my roof comming down in pieces at the track, especially in AZ's funny weather (hot/cold).

I am open to any ideas, the more the better. :nice:

Thanks.

I would say make a headliner like the new cars do, using a backing material (thin wafer board or plastic) and glue some material to that. That is if you can get the backing material cut to size...

You could have a custom appolstery (sp?) shop make you a new headliner? For example, my old c1500 pickup had its headliner falling down. Litterally, the cloth was falling on my head. He cut some sticky-back foam covered in material to shape, and then that gets glued right to the top. It fits perfectly, and is tight to the roof. It was cheap to get done too. The thing about fiberclass that I might worry about is that if you race the car, and you ever have the body twist/flex, would the fiberglass crack?

yeah thats exactly what i was think.

good idea on the foam stuff. i wonder how it wold look and how hard it would be to shape. also keeping it up would be a problem. i wouldnt want to have the glass to hold it up.
