Quick smog pump question

I'm about to remove the smog pump from my vehicle and I've read numerous times that the holes behind the heads need to be plugged as well as the hole in the exhaust. My question:

Instead of removing all of the hoses and crap and then having to plug all the holes, what is stopping me from removing ONLY the pump, and then leaving everything else in place and simply plugging up the hoses.

That way everything is still plugged up and I won't have to buy any bolts to plug up the heads and what not.

Will this work?

You could leave evething in place but you will still have to plug the hoses that attach to the pump. In addition it will not give your engine compartment a very clean look. It is not much work to plug both holes at the back of the heads and the h-pipe. Get two bolts for the head (I have heard guys use spark plugs
). Use a small piece of hose that will slide over the exaust with a plug on one end to plug the h-pipe.

Cool man thanx :flag:

easy to do. just did it not to long ago. if you remove the pump you can still leave the pipe going into the back of your factory heads. Just go to the local harware store and buy a pipe cap of the right size for under a buck. Thread it on and that's it. The pipe going into your exhaust cut it off with a torch leaving a little nub. Heat it till she's red hot and crimp it shut. Worked for me, just suggestion.

If I WERE to remove all the hoses and crap, what do I use to plug up the exhaust?

I already know spark plugs will work for the heads, but what about the exhaust?

Alright.....LAST question. When I remove the smog pump this Saturday, I will need to get the correct size belt (obviously :D ). Here's my question:

Who in this forum has the smog pump removed with Ford Racing underdrive pulleys on the crank, alt., and p/s?

I need to know which belt will work with this combo.

Find a bolt the correct size, slather it in loctite and plug it in. Worked for me!

As for the belt size, do a search, there has been diagrams posted on here before that will tell you what you need for your set-up.
