Blown headers, new engine?

Hey guys, I recently blew the headers on my 94 convertible V6. It looks like I might have to replace the engine, and I was wondering if anyone knew what my possibilities might be. Would it be possible to just upgrade to the V8, since I'll be buying a new engine anyway? Also, does anyone know where I can get some new headers for a 94? The dealership told me they dont make them anymore, so I might be out of luck unless I can find a junker. Any ideas?

Also, assuming I just go with new headers, where could I find some that will add a few ponies? I'm gonna be shellin out a few bucks anyway, so I might as well go for the speed too.

What do you mean you "blew the headers now you need an engine"? Sure you can swap in a V8 but it's a lot of work. You would also need the complete wiring harness and computer and sensors and air intake and a V8 fuel pump plus changing the exhaust to fit and probably a new drive shaft. As for headers check with Mac, they might have some long tubes that will add a little top end power.

Hey, I'm not claiming to be an expert, just a fan. I'm just repeating what the guy at the shop told me.

He said I blew the head gaskets, and I need to replace them, but they arent made anymore for the 94s. He also said that he had looked around and couldnt find any at the junkyard or anything, and unless I could find some, I would have to get a new engine.

If I dont want to get a new engine, where is my best shot at finding the head gaskets? Do they sell them online somewhere?

The guy is a moron if he told you head gaskets are no longer available for a 1994 3.8. I would really go to another shop. That makes me question this mechanics knowledge.

You can order some nice Fel-Pro gaskets from Autozone. Or they may even have them in stock.

Changing head gaskets will be much easier/cheaper than an engine swap. If you had mechanical failure, I would vote engine swap.

A blown header and a blown head gasket isn't the same, but still you can still fix it.
I just got a new head gasket kit from Autozone so no worries there. You can even do it yourself during a weekend. It's basicly bolt off, then bolt on again.
I've done mine without any mechanical skills and I didn't screw up.

Take your time and mark everything up, when you bolt on again you make sure you tourque everything correctly and in order.

I had never heard of a blown header, but yeah i had the headgasket problem too. they still make head gaskets. I had them done about 2 years ago when it was still a v6. trust me, they still make them. I would definitely go to another shop after hearing that. it sounds like he is trying to sell you a new engine when you don't need one.

im suprised that this guy didnt try to sell you blinker fluid and muffler bearings. Go to advance auto and get a Fel-Pro head gasket. They still make them. And, if this guy told you that they didnt make them anymore...take your car to a different shop and get someone that knows what they are talking about to look at it. While your getting the head gasket, could you pick me up a crankshaft spider gear? Mine melted yesterday. Thanks a bunch:flag:
