Hey, Im new here to stangnet.. but just had a quick question.
I just bought a new 2001 Cobra with 23,000 miles, and it is currently set up with all stock exhaust. I wanted to install a SLP Loudmouth 1 system, prefferably with an offroad X pipe... but as far as the o2 sensor... where is it mounted?? I'd run the stock headers, offroad x and just the slp system with the shotgun resonators...nice and loud? If anyone has any info. on this I'd appreciate it, pics would def. help too.. thanks -Joel.

I actually bought two SLP resonators for my 01 Cobra and totalled it before they came in the mail. My father and I rigged them into the place of the huge stock muffler on my "new" 02 lightning. Anyway ...

THEY SOUND AWESOME!! I have a feeling your going to love them.

There are four O2 sensors on the factory H pipe. Two "upstream" O2 sensors which are mounted "before" the catalytic converters and then two "downstream" O2 sensors which are mounted "after" the cats.

If you plan on running an offroad midpipe, you will want to look into getting a pair of MIL Eliminators to trick the rear O2 sensors into thinking that the cats are still "there" (ie - fooling the voltage into acceptable levels so that it does not trigger a check engine light). You may also remedy this by choosing one of the many aftermarket hand held programmers or computer chips/tune.

Crawl under the car and check out the stock exhaust configuration - it should be pretty straightforward...

G'luck.

As the above comment states about tricking the check engine, don't forget if you have an emissions test where you live or not. No cats will not pass. Personally I have on O/R X magnaflow but register the car to my parents house where ther is no e-check. You can hear exhaust clips on the internet or even youtube is good. The SLP are nice and loud. If I recall correctly the O2 sensors have a blue wire attached to them. They are hard to miss as they are the only thing other than a bolt touch the exhaust

Word: SLP with an off-road pipe will be amazingly loud. I put them on my wife's Cobra with the stock manifolds and H-pipe and they sound really nice. I also have them on my 93 with headers and a Bassani catted X-pipe and they're borderline obnoxious. Personally, I don't think I would like them with an off-road pipe. You might want to try them with the stock set-up first.

That said, the SLP stuff is the highest quality, best fitting thing that I've ever installed on either car. Well worth the bucks.

When they do an emissions check here in WA. on OBD II cars they simply plug into the OBD port and check for any errors. No check engine light no problem. I know it is different around the country but check your area first, never know what you can get away with until you read all the rules.:D

+1 on the SLP being loud with factory H pipe I have heard Wythors' cars and they both sound real good and about as most would want for the street.

Warning!!! The SLP loud mouth with off road X is LOUD!! The car actually does sound like a dragster. I actually changed back the next day, I was afraid the cops would give me a ticket! I currently run the SLP loud mouth with cats. It sounds nice.
