I am going to bring this back from the dead to give an update on my Patriot experience.....
Needless to say, I am a little dissapointed.
I have these on my engine, See sig, 351 11.1 compression, custom hyd flt tappet cam........ Car only trapped 104 in the quarter.....granted it was a hot day and we had some tuning issues but still...bit dissapointed. That would not of been so bad as the other issues we had with them. The first time I put a spark plug into one of the holes, it stripped and jacked up the plug.....it was obvious that that plugs angle was off from the others, no it was not cross threaded as it went almost all the way in before u had any issues. Looked as if the holed was tapped at a completely different angle.
I blew a head gasked with studs in so the heads are back off right now and at a local porters shop to get done. He was not impressed with them either. Said the area around the valves was a joke. Someone (guessing from the factory as I bought them brand new) has been in there with a grinder and almost went too thin, they didn't really know what they were doing and now he has no material to shape for flow. A few of the valve seats were not correct (raised is what he said, not sure what he meant). He said it looked as if the bowls were blended before the did the valve seats (agian, he was speaking over my head here). So I am going to have him try to salvage these and see what we can do with them.
Just a piece of info for anyone who might be considering them. They are just a cheap aluminum head and nothing more. I will have actual flow #'s from before and after to see if they flow anywhere near what patriot claims. My porter said he highly doubt it b/c the way the valves were inside the runners.... I can tell u that the exhaust ports are tiny compared to my actual headers, i kept blowing header gaskets and couldn't figure out why. When I pulled the heads there was burnt spot at the bottom of the ex port where it was smaller than my
bbk swap headers by about 1/2 an inch.
So, if you are considering these, snd them to a pro or do it ur self if u know how to have them worked over. Again, will post #'s when we get them.
