Posted this over at SVTP and thought I would put it over here as well in case someone knows the car.

Here is the SVTP post :

Copied from SVTP post :

I would like to ask the assistance of the experts in this forum. I have owned 20+ Mustangs now ( including a 2003 Kenne Bell Cobra in the garage) and have a perplexing situation............one I haven't come across in 12+ years of enjoying Mustangs.

I found, what appears to be, a 1993 Teal Cobra. Car is 95% complete. Only model specific items missing are the tailights and the intake. EVERYTHING else is present and accounted for. Car is DEFINITLEY the original color. Engine bay, area under the trunk carpet, behind door panels, etc... is all Teal. No overspray seen, rock chips don't show contrary color evidence.

Here's where it gets interesting.... car's VIN# comes back to a 1990 GT 5.0 5 speed..... Car fax shows the car first being titled in 01/94....... I found and confirmed the Cobra build tag in the engine bay..... There are no VIN stickers on the fenders or quarters. The VIN stickers on the hatch and hood are nearly unreadable, but can make out a "d" as the 8th vin.... am going to try and make it out when the car comes home this evening. Also, the VIN plate is original, rivets and all as confirmed by a local Mustang performance shop (Brad's Custom Auto)

Called the SVT hotline and the VIN obviously doesn't come up in the SVT database. They had a couple of "theory's" which I won't share right now as to bias any potential information. They had me contact Ford Customer Support who COULD NOT pull up the VIN as they said it was "flagged" to have Ford Corporate Research perform any inquiries. They said I would be called back in 2 business days or less.

Has anyone run across any situation like this? I bought the car for a song/dance with the owner of the lot putting in writing he would take the car back with a full refund if the VIN was discovered to be fraudulent or otherwise in any way.

Any info is appreciated in advance. I have wanted a Teal 93 Cobra for 10+ years and am SO STOKED to have this in my driveway! Now I have bookends, a 1993 and a 2003!

Well, just got back from WSP and the car checked out fine. As far as they're concerned, the car is a GT that has 93 Cobra parts on it.

Turns out that both the 90 GT VIN and the 93 Cobra VIN were listed as Stolen/recovered at one time. Not quite sure how things ended up as they did, and WSP doesn't care. She had more information to reinforce their stance that the car is 100% in their eyes, but couldn't disclose as it was Law Enforcement purposed only.

Looks like I get to keep my early Christmas present!

Thanks again to all for contributing the information in this thread.

Now to compile a parts list to order on Wednesday......
