Ok, i read the saleen wheel guide BobV had posted.
There is a bunch of saleen speedline rims on ebay right now, so i figured i'd pick one up, so i can send mine out to be rechromed one by one, so i can still drive the truck.

Here's the thing.
Mine say Made in the USA, 10mm offset. Didn't bother to write any more down, since according to the bobs page, there is only a couple Made in the USA's.
Also thought mine said 99/00, but i'll have to pull it and look again.

Bob's page says there is NO saleen logo on the front of these rims.
But, by the valve stem, all of mine say saleen.
Anyone help me sort this out?
BTW, my xp8 is a 2000, and came with these rims from the factory.

Thanks
Joe

I don't really have any good ones other than on my cardomain page in my sig.
But realistically, in pics they all look the same, the differences are too suttle to tell apart unless you have them in person.
Only thing different as far as i can tell is what i listed.
Which says i have the ones made in the usa.

Joe,

If they only say S A L E E N next to the valve stem and are stamped SALEEN on the rears then they are the 94-98 style wheels Saleen had made for themselves from the LeMans molds. That was from 99 up. I rememebr a set I had a few years ago that I bought from Bob said made in China.

The true 94-98 Saleen "flat spoke" that look almost identical say SALEEN and speedline on the fronts and are stamped Italy on the rear.

MHT made some knockoffs also that I have seen and they don't say anything on the fronts. Hope that helps a little.

I dunno marcus, i almost feel more confused, lol.
There are 4 on ebay right now, 2 different sellers.

Waiting on this seller to tell me where it was made.

Waiting on this seller to read the offsets (i can't see it) and where the rims was made, but his others are italian

So far the first one looks like my best bet, but then again i'm starting to feel like there is endless versions of saleen rims in general.

OK, I'll give this a stab, although Marcus probably has more Saleen wheel knowledge in his "pinky" than I have in my brain!

On the 94-98 Speedlines:

If the wheel says "Saleen" AND "Speedline" on the front, it's an "Italian Speedline".
If the wheel has NOTHING on the front, it's a "US Speedline" (or MHT knockoff?).
If the wheel says "Saleen" on the front (next to valvestem), but has NO other wording on the front, then it would be the "Chinese Speedline" - some of which MAY have also been made in the US... "Chinese Speedline" may not be the best / most exact terminology - maybe we should call them "Late Speedline" or something else.

Since you're dealing with a 2000 Exploder, I would tend to believe that it probably has the Chinese / Late Speedlines on it. Some of the XP's had the American Speedline, and that's where a lot of the cracking started. I tend to think that the "Chinese" Speedline came into being partially as a response to that situation. They may have also made slight changes to the profile of the spokes for extra "beef", which would explain what Marcus & Robert have said about the dish appearing different...

I JUST updated the 94-98 page this morning to include some of the pictures from these auctions.

In my opinion,
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...STRK:MEWA:IT&viewitem=&item=270209106262&rd=1 & http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...STRK:MEWA:IT&viewitem=&item=280198348321&rd=1 are "Chinese / Late" Speedlines.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...STRK:MEWA:IT&viewitem=&item=280198338092&rd=1 &
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...STRK:MEWA:IT&viewitem=&item=280198344467&rd=1 are both Italian Speedlines.

Marcus, feel free to correct me where I'm wrong!!!! :nice:

So, i may have a Chinese USA rim? Lol.

So the first ebay auction, the one that says "10mm" in the title, i may want to bid on?

Seems there is a massive amount of combinations of these rims.
8.5 wide
10 wide
Italian
Chinese
USA
Chinese USA
and a handful of offsets

It amazes me that anyone acutally has a full matching set.

You are correct - the # of possibilities is BAFFLING! That's part of the reason I've been trying to document them!!! ANY detailed pictures would be great - I'd love to have pictures of yours with the USA and Saleen lettering!

I believe that the first two auctions are both the same wheel, and they are the ones you want... Can't really read the offset in the 2nd auction, but it LOOKS like it has a 10 stamped. The 021-446 part number on the box also came up in a post on the Explorer forum during Google search.

Good Luck!

Bob, i'm afraid to show you pics of the inside of my rims. They are destroyed. NJ winters have desimated them. Must be saleen crap chroming though, the rest of the truck is in good condition.

BTW, neither seller has emailed me back yet, and i confirm that through the ebay email system.
I emailed them tuesday.

I bid, but got a little rich for my blood.
I also felt like the guy bidding would of done anything to get that rim.
Once it reached half the cost of a set of the newer replicas, i gave up.
We will see on the next one. If it goes high, i think i'll just buy black replicas and have the rims rechromed all at once.
