Alright, hate to be a pain here guys/girls... But i've gotta friend who happens to have a very strong running, and nicely restored '77 Cobra II with a 4 speed... He knows the original owner who says he has not done any prior modifications to the car.. Would anyone happen to know the factory gear ratio? Any help would be appreciated... Thanks.:nice:

More than likely a 3.00 if it is a v8. That was what mine was. Best bet is to check the tag on the rear end though-that will tell you for sure.

IIRC the V8 manual was a wide ratio?

Anyhow, if the 13 inch tires are still being used there should be no real problem using 2.79 gears with the 4 gear.

When I lived in the Pittsburgh / West Mifflin area (hilly) I ran 2.79s with ~ 205/70/14 tires behind a RUG wide ratio and 'stock power' 302, but then I had a 11" clutch so it could take a little more abuse.

Mileage went from the 15~17 mpg range on the open road to 20 mpg or more. 17 mpg out of a stock V8 II was almost unheard of.

Sure, the "1/4 mile" times (of the line performance) sucked but drag racing always seemed like masturbation and I haven't actually street raced going on 30 years.
