Door glass revisited...

I know its come up in the past, "Is there a difference between the door glass of a coupe vrs the door glass of a hatchback II?"

The answer is "Yes" (the factory-tinted glass is from a hatchback. The clear glass is from a coupe)

If you are unsure of what you are looking at, look from the front (curved) end of the glass. The hatchback windows follow a roughly even curve for their entire top edge, while the coupe glass flattens out towards the rear edge. It can also be measured from the bottom edge of the glass at the back corner to the rear top corner: 20" for a hatchback and aprox. 20 5/8" for a coupe.

This came up again a while back on another forum, and I argued against it because I put a coupe window in my '77 Cobra II when some lowlife scumbag smashed my window out and stole a bunch of stuff out of the car.

So, I went down to the garage and looked the car over, and I have to admit that the one side looks different than the other. So, what I'm saying is that you CAN put a coupe window into a fastback, but the lines don't flow quite right. It seals fine, and if I didn't point it out to anyone they would never notice, but yes, I agree, there is a difference.
I guess at some point I'll have to acquire another passenger side window...

There are a couple of wrecks here right now (Calgary). Both with intact door glass some already removed.. Coyote, is there any numbers on the two pieces for future reference. I know I went through this on my sons Honda CRX. Took three tries to get the right glass. I can pick them up if someone is in need of glass.

I'll take a look for numbers, but I've already installed the hatch glass, so I may need to see which body style the other sets we have are.

If you need to identify them by eye, its REALLY easy to spot the difference when you look at the top edge (smooth arc = hatchback, while the coupe glass flattens distinctly toward the rear) If they're already pulled, you can measure the height to confirm.

Wow! I am going to have to have a look at the Mach! Glad I didn't throw out any of the 4 plus? extra doors I have for the II, hopefully I have a hatch back door glass' in the pile :D One door is original, but the other was from a Ghia! Yikes!:jaw: I bet that is why the passenger window is a bitch to adjust and maybe that is why it leaks and is generally a pain in my &^% I just had the windows out too (to repaint the trim)
