hello I'm looking for some advice please. here is what i have.Ialso work with the guy i got the motor from..... I have a 289 time capsule you could call it.The guy put it in a 57 t-bird back in 1968,then his health took a bad turn.his kid endded up with the car dad could not finsih it.the engine sat for all these years full of transmission fluid when i pulled oil pan off all the factory making and everthing still in tack.my question what is this puppy worth its a 2 barrell not k code enginebut it is clean. we were going to use the engine but sold the rolling chassie does any body know waht its worth i was going to start at $500 it also comes with three speed trans bell,clutch and disc thanks for any help greg.my e-mail is [email protected]...thanks again oh yea the casting numbers say its a 1968 engine i'll get complete numbers... casting numbers are C80E-6015A

should of did my home work

well i checked numbers and found engine tag under coil.It is a early 1968 302 engine .by the casting numbrers C80E-6015A and the crank number is a 2m in the counter weight sorry if i miss led anybody.i think i'll hold on to it for my king or my early 75 bronco or e-bay it thanks take care greg

With that info, it might be "date-correct" for somebody doing a "100-point" restoration on a Mustang or even Cougar - which makes it worth more to the right buyer!

The only maybe/maybenot in ths deal is in the "coding" on the tag. It could be a "service replacement" block - which means it was built to be used in warranty repair/replacement. The motor may be the perfect specimen of a very early 302; but the coding will indicate that it's not "original to the car on assembly".




[soapbox] Which is why I think the "100 point" restorers are doomed to an eternal life of frustration. Before I'm done, my car will have a tranny that wasn't even designed until 25 years after the car was built! The new brakes will have first seen service 21 years after the car, etc.[/soapbox]

I checked the engine tag and it is as follows... 302 c69 5 9-e k280-s i think it could be a warrenty engine does any body have a decoding form i could go to i goggled a couple but nothing on the s part of engine code thanks again greg

I'll ask a couple of guys on mercurycougar.net that have parts books. They were throwing a few numbers around on a thread over there regarding roller 351 blocks.

Okay, here's the response I got:

This tag 302 C69 5 9-e K280 says: a (302) engine, built in (C)leveland for a (69) car and was the (5)th design change. The engine was built May(e) of 6(9), it was a f code 302 2v (K-280) and was used in a 69 Fairlane or Comet or Montego. The car also was an automatic with IMCO smog system. The (si) at the end means nothing to me -it should have a (J).

Because I had mentioned the original "roller 351" thread over there; he thought that we thought it was a 351. I ended up copying your entire original post in my reply, so he knew what was going on.

Now, if somebody is trying to concours a '69 Fairlane or Montego (or Comet????); that somebody would probably like to talk to you!

StangDreamin' thank you so much now i know what i have and will go from that.If I can help someone out to restore their Fairlane or Montego (or Comet????); I'll get rid of it .i don;t want to part it or use it some where else thanks again greg.i;ll probly e-bay it and take the money anf fix the 302 in my mustang take care greg
