I just picked up a very nice 86 GT. med red with sand interior, 107K miles owned by a Mercedes tech. Needs carpet and a drivers side kick panel, and tires, almost 100% bone stock except for high flow cats.

Excellent score, my friend. I love to see '86 fellas show up on here. I see you have the optional black stripe on the hood; very cool. Can't wait to see the direction you take with it. Keep us informed.

thoose seats are rare as hell

I have yet to see the pre-87 tan colored interior in person. It has to be rare, and from what I've seen, I love it. It looks like this car had a few rare options, as the black stripe hood was a rarely chosen option in '86.

I saw that car too, what did you end up getting it for, if you dont mind me asking. He was looking for like $3300 right? I figured $2800 might get the job done but i never saw it in person. Looks great.

It was indeed bought from a member for FEP, John, Nice guy very upfront about the car. Funny Nik you should mention not seeing a pre 87 with beige interior before, because up until a few weeks ago I had never seen a 87 and up car with it. She still has the marchal lights, I'm looking for a set of covers for them. I'm torn as to what to do with this car. I have an 89 LX vert with a DSS 306, procharger, and 5 lug swap. I don't much care for verts so I thought about swapping everything over to this car, and maybe adding a set of black bullitt wheels. I also considered painting the car white or silver, I'm just not sure yet.

:wow: nice score. I am liking 4 eyes more and more. I still cant get used to the interiors though.

I think the interiors are great. The seats are sooooo much more attractive than the hideous '87+ flannel print, grandma-car seats. The dash is kinda sketchy though (and the '86 didn't have it, thank God) but some of the older 4-eyes had really ugly Blade Runner- looking checkered print around the gauges on the dash.

The only thing I don't care for in the 86 dash is the red backlight instead of green. Kinda hard to see the gauges.
That's super easy to change. There are five backlight bulbs and each one has a colored cover. Replace the red covers with blue or remove them entirely and use colored bulbs or LEDs. The right 194-type LED replacements will put out more light than the stock incandescent bulbs, but the LEDs will not dim the same.

What isn't easy is getting the HVAC control panel and warning display module to match. The HVAC control panel has to be replaced to get a different color. It's finding the right panel, that also isn't broken, that proves to be difficult. The warning display modules bulb covers are glued on and sometimes they break when trying to remove them. The harness can be replaced though, so you can leave the bulb covers on. Finding the blue bulb covers or harness can be difficult.

... Really nice car, looks great : ) Take good care of It, and if you change something, spare the stock part.

Sorry, Nikwoac , what is "the black stripe hood" ?

The flat-black cowl panel that has thin stripes and the "GT" cutout at the front, driver's side corner. In '85 it was standard on GTs, but in '86 is was an option that most people decided to go without.
