I currently have a pro 5.0 shifter mated to my tremec tko 600 tranny. I'm not all that thrilled with it. I'm considering a steeda tri-ax and I'm looking for opinions or recommendations.

Would anyone currently using or has used the steeda shifter recommend it?

What other shifters might you recommend?

I have had the Steeda before in my '96. Great shifter. The throw felt more natural than the Pro5.0 in the '96, however in my fox the Pro5.0 felt better. I have had a Hurst without any complaints. Stay away from a B&M Ripper Pro. I wanted to try something new a few years back....bad mistake. That shifter, aside from having stops, was worse than a stock (sloppy feeling). I called their tech and they said they designed it that way to be more forgiving while shifting???

alot of people use the pro 5.0 with a tri ax lever, i love the pro5.0 shifter, but with the supplied handle it pretty much feels un-natural. I use a pro 5.0 with a hurst handle/lever.

you might want to try a new handle and save close to 200 bucks

The search feature must not have been working for you earlier...

Anyway, I have an MGW and it's great. Not sloppy, good handle position (adjustable), centering springs are great, almost no trans noise, and great quality.

I have a Tri-ax on a T5 in my 66 and an MGW in my 90 again with a T5...I like em both but I really like the MGW best I believe! I kept a Tri-ax in the 66 cause it allowed me to use a longer shifter handle so I can reach it better where the MGW doesnt.

the handle bolts right up, i had the same problem you do, The handle made all the diff. in the world. I have the tri-ax handle in all my stangs but i dont own one tri-ax shifter??

the handle is key, its like 10 bucks

I always ran a Tri Ax and was happy, but I just got a MGW, haven't even driven the thing yet but from goin through the gears, I already love the MGW. I have the silver racing handle. I can't wait to drive it tho!!!

yeah I have a pro5.0 with a tri ax handle and I love it

+1

Same setup on my '89. The shifter could stand to be just a wee bit more to the left and just a little farther back, but otherwise, it's all good. :nice:

I also really like the shifter that LaserSVT got for Frankenstang - not sure of the brand, but it was very nicely assembled, installed easy enough, and shifts exactly the same as my Pro 5.0 shifter. It could stand to use a better shifter handle, though ... maybe a Steeda Tri-Ax, or something similar.

Anyone ever tried any of the handles/shifter bases sold by UPR? I was kinda curious about their adjustable shifter handle, if anyone's ever given that one a go...

I have had the tri ax in my 90 fox for about 4 years now. I have not used any other shifter than this (other than stock) but I am very happy with it. It was a huge difference over the stock shifter. The only thing i am a little unhappy with is how much it loosened up over the years. When i first got it it was very stiff, which i liked. Over the years it has become loose, not sloppy like the stock shifter, just loose. My father bought a tri ax for his fox cobra last year and you can feel the difference between the older tri ax and the newer one.

I had the UPR blue thunder (the one with the holes) on my tri ax and it was awesome. I had an 03 cobra style knob on it and loved it. The MGW is #1 in my book now. I also ran the adjustable UPR handle but didn't really like it, instead of pulling back you had to push it down to get into 2nd and 3rd.

Anyone who says anything other than MGW just hasn't tried an MGW yet.

haha, well I had an MGW in my t45, it was a nice shifter BUT I just got a pro 5.0 for my t5 and its Sick!! i dont know fo some reason it actually feels better than the MGW in the t45. Shifts feel smooth and precise! Im not sure bout you, but the MGWs are some $$, so you might be better off with ur Pro5.0 unless u just have to try out the MGW and see for your self. I might have gotten the MGW just because of the experience on my T45 but for the $125 I got the almost new Pro.0 and a FRPP know, Im very happy with it!
