Need some advice on e7 heads

I have a basically stock 89gt engine still runs pretty good. I was able to get a good deal on a GT40 tubular upper/lower and rebuilt e7's were thrown into the deal for free. I was wondering if it is worth it to have the e7's ported? The car is just a street driver and I'm only looking to pick it up a little bit, not turn it into a drag car. Any advice would be appreciated.

I run ported e7's matched to a ported Edlebrock performer efi intakes.... the car makes 284 rwhp. They were on the car when I bought it, I didn't spend money to have them ported, but if I had a set of stock e7's I wouldn't waste the money there.... Unless you know how to port them yourself, it's not that difficult with a Dremel tool and the right attachments...just time consuming and a very messy job.

If you were gonna pay to have them ported, it really isn't worth the money.. put that money towards a better set of heads.

In my old 89 GT I ported and polished the E7 Heads and got a 23HP gain. It was enough to feel and it kinda make the exhaust sound alil more aggressive. Howeverer as long as you don't expect too much of a gain its worth it. E7 heads are limited be there restrictive design so there is only soo much porting you can do to them safely. Basicly you get 20-25HP if they're done right. If you're paying someone to do them I probably wouldn't waste the time I'd save for some GT40s or trick flow ect...

x2. I ported my own E7's and I'd say the HP gains were very similar. I also ported the stock lower intake at the same time. IMO, porting the E7's is worth doing if you DIY but not if you need to pay someone else to do it.

I've ported a few sets of heads and was most impressed with the power gains from stock e7 to ported e7.

The gains from the ported e7 to ported GT40s was barley noticable.

I posted a writeup on the GT40s a while back. Same concepts apply to e7s. Read eveything Tmoss and Thumper have ever posted on porting before you start.

Raising the port roof and biasing the port for swirl are where you'll make the power.

All that said, if you have the money go get some aluminum heads.

If you do go the DIY route, figure at least 1 hour per port to do a quality job as a beginner.

Good luck...
