Powerdyne doesn't clear sway bar!!!

Thanks for the bigger pics. I stand by my earlier suggestion, lower the car back down to normal height and I bet everything will go together as it should.

EDIT: make sure you put the wheels and tires back on the car. The goal here is to "load" the suspension again with the wieght of the vehicle

hmm... take a look at this pic i found, look hard at where the alternator is placed, it looks like yours is in the right spot, check your kit for the piece they have shown there

i would also unload the suspension as suggested

I'll try that.

When I get home from work I will put the wheels back on and lower the car. Do you think after I instal it and then put it back on jack stands at a later time I will have any issues? I hope not. Also, I do have that bracket "thingy" but hadn't pulled it out yet because I couldn't get this to fit.

How in the world did you get the picture to post so big???? I tried forever.

Thanks for the help guys.:nice:

does the pulley line up with the other pullies?

It looks to me like you have the alterantor on the wrong side of the bracket ? if this is the problem your alternator pulley will be set farther back then the others

It's on the right side. It fits between the main bracket and he supercharger bracket. The small ear of the alternator connects with the smog pump via a small twisted piece of metal called the "alternator stay". Pulleys line up the way it is now so we'll see.

Try this:

Unbolt the alt from the bracket. Take the alt out. Put the alt back in by sliding it up beside the crank pulley.

The reason I think this might work is because you have the top bolt in the alt, which isnt allowing you to rotate the alt past the sway bar. Take that bolt out and you should be good to go.

What did your dad do to the alternator bracket? I finished installing the radiator back in it so maybe tomorrow I will put it back on the ground and try from the crank side like earlier suggested. Thanks for all the help.

Not yet...

If it would stop raining! We've had a string of bad weather and sorry to say the starter went while it was outside the garage. SO... Thinking this whole instal would only take 5-6 hours I left it out there. Weather should be breaking in a couple days. Thanks

Is it just me or does the alt pully not line up with the crank pully? I have no experience with the kit but iy looks like S&B is right and the alt needs to be on the front of the bracket

Another stupid question, have you tried rotating the alt 180*?

You guys were right.

I used your advise guys. Came in from the crank side and put the car on ramps instead if jacks. It fit right in there. What worries me is that next time i put the car on jacks or on a lift for some reason, the sway bar will smash right into the bottom of the alternator. This doesn't seem to cool to me but at last it fits.

Okay...

Next issue, the factory belt tensioner makes contact with the w/p pulley! I've heard of using a shorter belt or drilling a new hole for the tensioner catch. Does anyone have any experience with this?

Do I have to have a tune if I pull out my hyperchip and run stock ignition timing? Can't afford $500 for dyno and tune just yet. Any advise would be appreciated.:flag:

Glad to hear you got it worked out. :nice:

As far as the sway bar issue and raising the car you really only have 3 choices. Remove the sway bar, only jack the car up to the point before it hits the alternator, or disconnect the bar if you need the car up higher.

Get a shorter belt 1st but you may still have to drill a new hole. And double check the tensioner mounting bracket and make sure you have it installed correctly.

As far as a tune, as long as the engine is basically stock you should be ok without a tune as long as you have an FMU and larger fuel pump. Definately pull the chip and take the timing down to stock. I would save up the money to get a tune if you can though.

Thanks alot for the help. I will get it tuned when I have the money. I just hope that it runs okay...

Do you have any idea what the stock timing is for and 89 5.0? I don't know how to do the timing myself but I imagine my mechanic will do it for next to nothing because I heard it's real easy. I'm such a newb.
