Yea, I know this is 5.0 Talk, but I like it here better than in the 4.6 section lol.

So I plan on starting to rebuild the notch this summer as well as swapping to a manual. I want turn it into a beast and maybe have it done when I get out of college, idk we shall see. It takes as long as it takes, right.

Anyway its def gonna take some time so Im looking for another car to drive. I know of a 96 Cobra for sale, but I really know very little about these cars let alone modular motors. Does anybody know anything about these cars, or anything in particular that I should be looking at when checking the car out?

DOHC 4.6, 305hp 300tq. T45 trans, 3.27 gears stock. They LOVE to rev to 7k, and gears are your best friend. Very tame and easy to drive but pulls hard in the upper RPM's. PERFECT daily driver IMO. My 97 went 13.58@105 bone stock on street tires. The motor is essentially the same as the 03/04 Mach 1 save for minor differences. I'd get another one in a heartbeat, throw some nice deep dish FR500's on it, drop it and call it a day.

They are nice cars if you like sn95's. We have one and its nice not my thing but my g/f loves it. Goes pretty good with full exhaust and 4.10's. They run 12's all day with bolt ons and a decent driver. Not the same feeling as a fox though :nono:

Very stout motors. Like timeless said the Teksid blocks are very strong and one of the most sought after in the modular world. I believe they were made in the same plant as Ferrari blocks. 4 Valve is great. I would take one.

Oh this reminds me, i have a buddy who does aluminum welding for a living...anyways he made his own intake and a bunch of other stuff for his '96 Cobra and it eventually went mid 10s all motor before he put a turbo on it.

96 Is a great year for them. I miss mine alot. With a chip, O/R H-pipe and a catback it made 299.8 rwhp :nice:
96 Is the best year for cams as well. IDK what changed on them in 97 but the guys who used to make big power N/A before aftermarket cams were made always use the 96 cam in them, even with 03/04 heads

The block and crank are good for 1200+hp but the pistons are your weak point. They will only handle 480 ish rwhp before they give up. Plenum was prolly the prettiest Ford ever made too.
If my Mark VIII ever gets totaled its engine is coming out and its block is going in my Cobra :nice:

Thanks for the info guys. Can always count on the Stangnet crew:nice:
The car Im looking at has Flowmasters, BBK O/R H w/mil elims, strut tower brace, 99 cobra wheels, and cai. And the guys says he has Steeda springs and 3.73s to go with the car. Im not sure if Im gonna get it, but if I do you guys will def hear about it.
Thanks again for the help fellas.

What are they asking for it, I got one, it's the most ignored pony in our stable.

I know less about the 4.6 than prolly everyone, but I had a DD 97 T-Bird, run as good as any car I've ever had, til 197K on the clock, when some lady took off the front end with a Volvo. I'd still be driving it. Its a great motor, not more power than my 5.0, but its hard to describe- the power was more even throughout the band? The power was not as peaky as a 5.0. Never burned oil, all the toys worked great on it, if the Mustangs of the era are built that well, I'd say grab it.

Fortunatly the Cobra has all the bolt ons to wake it up a bit so its just gas and go. :nice: I would get it, offer him $500 less and see what he says. Make sure if you get it to swap the fuel filter and do an oil change. They like the Mobil1 5w30 the best and ONLY use the Motorcraft oil filter (FL820S) as it keeps all the oil from draining back to the pan. You will like the car and be very impressed with its power.
