I have a 2000 merc marquis with the 4.6 and it doesnt have the PI heads. What head can I out on it to increase the horse power besides the PI heads? Any help would be appreciated!

In about 2 weeks I will have a set of ported NPI heads available with less than 3K on them. Professionally done by Nick at modularheadshop. They have crower retainers for higher lift cams and flow better than stock PI heads. You can pm me if it interests you.

Other than that SVO heads from Ford racing but youll be into them about 2 grand before you are done. Most others I know of are the PI style and then theres Trick Flow but pricey.

What are you doing to the motor and what are your needs?

I have no Idea what Im going to do to this car lol ALl I plan on doing right now is put some better flowing heads on it. The car only has 60k When it goes which I know wont be for a long time lol I plan on gettinga S/C cobra motor. But for now just better heads!

What's your objection to using PI heads? Your options are fairly limited without really getting expensive.

:stupid:

Aside from the higher flow intake and exhaust ports and more efficient combustion design, you'll also benefit from a bump in compression. There really isn't any down side. Especially when you consider brand new PI heads can be had, with cams for about $800. Where as the only aftermarket alternative for you at this point is the Trick Flow....which will run you about 2 1/2 times the price and don't include cams!

Better flow which equals more horspwer right? I can get 2 heads with less than 30k for $300 A car with pi heads has 225HP and a non NPI head has 200HP so For 3-400 bucks for 25 extra HP doesnt seem like a bad ratio

I have no idea what you're talking about in this statement? So are you saying you're for, or against PI heads?

"stanggt1995" asked what my objective was for using PI heads I said mor horspeower, Cheap. Can 4 valve heads be used on a 2000 Merc marquis?

No...lol....he asked what your "OBJECTION" was to using PI heads, since in your earlier statement you said

What head can I out on it to increase the horse power besides the PI heads?

So again....I ask. Do you want to use PI heads, or don't you?

And yes, 4-Valve heads can be used bit if you're trying to maintain a particular budget, don't bother. The needed suporting parts to make them work are going to eat up more money that the heads are worth.

HAHA ok! well is there a better head I can get off another 4.6 without a lot of mods? Like 3 valve or cobra heads

To be honest, you best bet is a set of PI's.

As stated, your only other practical option is a set of Trick Flows, but they're about 2 1/2 times the price as a set of brand new PI heads with cams.

The 3-Valve heads won't work on the 2-Valve block....at least not without a ton of work and the 4V heads as I stated previous require a ton of suporting parts (timing cover, timing components, front accesories, cams etc. If you really must go 4-Valve, then you best bet is to just buy yourself a whole 4-Valve engine to drop in place of your current 2-Valve. It'll cost you about the same and save you a ton of time and agravation.
