On a budget... Unfortunately

With a completly stock 07 GT, I will have a budget of around 4K at tax season. What will give me the most BANG for the buck to push me back into the seat? Not a huge fan of NO2... Not sure why. Im looking for possibly a remanufactured turbo or supercharger? Any suggestions?

I'm not looking for an 11 sec. car... But I want to give a 50,000 car a run for its money on weekend cruises. I guess you could say a sleeper car. I'm not interested in track days or drag strips, but I do want to pee in a corvette owners cheerios! Does that make sence for a goal?

Turbo done right, over 10K w/ tuning, gauges, etc...


CAI, dyno tune, 4.10 gears, LT headers

THAT's about 3K+ right now...

Take your time... these are not fox bodies... they are $$$!
 
I would agree with the CAI and tune and 4.10 gears but I think a suspension upgrade would be a better idea instead of long tubes. The headers are usually a pain to install and aren't cheap to begin with. A suspension is something that most people can install themselves with not much trouble.
As far as beating Corvettes you might have a shot against the older LS1 cars, but anything with an LS2 or LS3 is gonna be tough.
 
For some reason, I'm hell bent on a turbo or supercharger. I want to be able to walk away from other cars should the need arise. If I need to wait and save... Thats what I'll do. And I'm in S. Carolina, which means I could run strait pipes all the way back if i wanted, so exhaust isnt a problem. I want more air and more fule!!!
 
There wouldn't be much gain in going to straight pipes, you would gain a little with getting rid of the cats, but you would be so loud that you would get tired of it. These cars do not sound good with off road mid pipes and no mufflers.
You could probably get a non IC centrifugal for under 4k but you would probably not have enough to get it installed. Either save some more for a blower or get a tune and gears. There are a lot of options out there, shop a lot before making a choice.
 
I have an '07 GT automatic coupe. Paid just $3700 for a brand new Vortech V2 S-trim supercharger (non-intercooled). Rest of the engine is 100% bone stock and it makes about 455 flywheel hp. Runs low 12's @ 113+ in the 1/4 mile with drag radials and 100% factory suspension.

If you'll have $4K to spend, the Vortech V2 or V3, or the Paxton Novi 1100 would be great choices that are very upgradable later as budget allows.
 
thanks Five Oh. I was going to say the same exact thing. You can get a centrifugal supercharger for 4k, and that would be what you want.

Centris dont make the low end power like a twin screw, but, that makes it easier to hook up, and then they give great power at the top end. So, you'll be hooking up better then blowing by anyone you missed at the other end of the track.

You'll probably also want some wider wheels and tires. That is going to go over budget, but what doesn't?

fuel upgrade, pump(s), injectors, rails 1K at least

clutch upgrade 1K

transmission upgrade 2K at least

rear end upgrade 1K at least

driveshaft 500ish

Suspension 1K at least

Tires... maybe even a set for the track... cheap ones 1K

Be sure to keep in mind this is doing ALL the work yourself, and it all working the first time, nothing ever breaking.

At the very least, and with everything going right the first time, yourself... perfect world conditions.

Do you want to pee in the C6 cheerios from a dig or a roll? 4K centri S/C isn't going to do it. Not to be a jerk but the C6 is about 200lbs lighter with around 370rwhp. I'd say 450rwhp should put a hurting on them. But at that power, the internals and hardware may need some updating as chad 9350 mentioned.

I thought the general consensus was that most of our cars could handle around 430-450rwhp without altering much else? Any power over that may be a different story, but I know that there are a lot of people running those numbers on otherwise stock cars. Seems that is the power level that a lot of of power adders on the market take these cars.

Personally I think the brakes and suspension (including wheel/tires) are 100% inadequate at stock levels for any type of performance driving. I'd address those issues and learn the car well before dumping power and money into making the car an unstoppable fiasco but this of course is just my 2c. :D
 
+1 (I think I am doing that a lot tonight) Walter is right! Get to know the car first. Then when you upgrade something, the difference will be noticeable and worth it. Does that make 4¢?

I've raced several bone stock C6 Vettes at our local dragstrip. Pretty much dead even race, with me launching harder, beating them to the 1/8 mile and them nearly catching me at the 1/4 mile traps.
