Here's the scoop;
Wife was driving on the on ramp, guns it, & it starts running real rough out of nowhere. Took it to the autoparts store & hooked it up to the OBD 2 reader & it says misfire cylinder 1. I'm hoping it just needed plugs & wires cuz I bought some since they suggested that at the store. After looking at some of the other threads I'm starting to wonder though...
Anybody else have anyhting similar happen & what was the fix?

I would have the coil pack tested before getting a new one. If its not bad and you put a new one in, once its in, they wont let you return it .. and your out about $60. Get an ohmmeter and with the car off, test the secondarys. Front to back on each one, not side to side (3 sets). Your readings should be around 9k - 15k ohms. If one of the sets is way higher or doesn't read at all, then the coil is bad. If you haven't replaced the plugs and wires, now is a good time to do so. Test the coil, replace the plugs and wires then fire it up. If it is still missing after the coil tested good and replacing wirres/plugs, get a spark tester ($5 bucks ). Unplug the wire directly from the plug to the missing cylinder and attach the wire to the spark tester. Attach ground wire on tester to someplace on the block, dial in your plug gap on the tester... now set it on a safe location where the spark wont jump from the tester or fall. Now start the engine and note whether or not you see sparks poppin away in the tester. If it is sparking, then you have other problems. If it is not then your coil pack is 100% faulty. Sometimes coil packs will read the proper resistance on secondaries but sometimes one of the coils still wont fire. This is usually a problem in the primary side. Just like to rule things out before spendin $$$ on parts you may not be abble to return. Past experiences teach good lessons :p

Sorry, I should have been more specific. The secondary terminals are where your plug wires connect to the coil pack. Those terminals on the pack. Remember, engine off, test top to bottom. There are 3 individual coils and you are testing each coil by measuring resistance of each coils secondary terminals. Secondary terminals are the coils output. Primary is the coils input... in this case the primaries are 3 of the pins where the wire harness plugs in. Just giving you an idea of how it works.
