I have a 2009 GT/CS Vert, 4.6. I'm going give her a complete, custom paint job and part of that process is to replace the stock (fake) scoop hood with a heat extractor hood. The 2 choices available are either carbon fiber or fiberglass. I have been told that the carbon fiber will require hood pins to secure it, and I'm not thrilled with hood pins on a 2009. I've also been told that fiberglass can frequently have "fit" problems and they should also be used with hood pins. My third option is to use my stock hood and remove the scoop...but that's not really what I want to do. I will be adding a supercharger next year (probably a roush), and I want to be sure the heat extractor hood will not interfere with the supercharger. So... what are your opinions of the carbon fiber vs. fiberglass hoods? What hood vendors have you had a good experience with in regards to quality? Thanks for your help.

I have had great luck with Cervinis when it has come to fit and finish on their fiberglass hoods. I do not have hood pins and have drove the car for three + years without any problems or vibrations.

fyi...love my BBR 3" cowl hood by Kaenan...best fit and finish and I had a cervini hood previous...

I would agree with the others and check out Cervinis hoods. Ive had hoods from other places and the fits were just horrible, not to mention the extra time and money your paint guy will need to just prep the thing.

The one my current mustang is a cervinis and I LOVE it. the fit is perfect and my paint guy rarely had to mess with it. He also has nothing but compliments for cervinis products, and IMO has one of the best shops in the area. He said one of his customers was debating between cervinis and another cheeper brand with a similar hood for his truck... after all the work he had to do just to make it fit, and paint on top of it, the total cost far exceeded what the cervinis would have been. :p

As far as carbon fiber vs fiberglass.... Im nowhere near an expert, but wouldnt you have similar fitting issues with both materials?

Hood pins... I'm running great without them, no problems at all stock. I think you might want to reconsider if you are going to throw in a supercharger and run it hard though.

I'll have to agree with HEAVYGT, I've just had my bodyshop install a Kaenan 3" Cowl inducted hood and it fit perfect! Got it from American Muscle shipped for 539.00. He had to do some prep work and paint but nothing major. Looks and fits great! Went with the Steeda style paint job with most of the hood black and everyone knows that black will show any waves or imperfections in the hood, smooth as glass!

As far as fitment with the Roushcharger, I had the stock hood when i put the R2300 on, no problems. I wouldnt see the heat extractor hood having any issues. I agree with everyone about Cervini's. Had a 94 with Cervinis hood, and the 06 has one. No issues at all.
