So, I'm finally going to tackle that clutch chatter that I've been dealing with for the last few years. I have a new clutch, pressure plate, throw-out bearing, pilot bearing and flywheel. My 64.5 has a 260v8 with the 3 speed.

Don't laugh, but I have not replaced a clutch myself in 25 years. So, I need a little refresher. I found helpful information searching this forum and have the link below. But, can anyone add to it? Any words of wisdom? Do's or don'ts?

I will be on my back doing this job, so I know it will not be easy. But, I know I can do this job myself.

Any advise will be greatly appreciated.

i've done a million fox mustang clutch installs....

use threadlocker on the flywheel bolts...they're not blind and will leak oil

most importantly, break in your clutch...500 miles with lots of city driving...no flooring it, even on the highway!

Hmmm… Flywheel bolt holes here…

Thanks guys. Do you know how much the tranny weighs? I'm wondering how I will support it when taking it out as I don't have a transmission jack. I figure I will just use my floor jack, but I might just muscle it out.

you might also want to place two support studs in the lower tranny to bellhousing holes (probably a couple of inches long each) .... cut slots in the ends to facilitate removal of the studs .... all-thread will work, or cut the heads off a couple of bolts ..... not needed so much for removal, but may really help with install as you need to get the input shaft centered on the disc/pilot bearing and any "drop" could damage the the clutch .... the studs will act as guide pins and make centering easier and take much of the load as you get close to the disc .... there's a lot of iron in those puppies, so be prepared to do some bench pressing .... good luck ....

Thanks for all of the advise. I will be pulling out the old clutch on Saturday morning. If all goes well, I will be driving it with the new clutch on Saturday night. But, don't be surprised if I come back with a few more questions.
