Extended warranty

My 2007 Mustang is approaching the 36 month mark. I, of course, still have the 5-year, 50,000 mile power train warranty. Dealers here want too much for a new 2010 with the 2011 due soon. I would love to have a 2011 GT but at the moment that probably is not going to happen.
I have seen extended warranties on line for less than my dealer wants.
I am skeptical about such a purchase over the Internet.
Anyone have any advice?

Buy a genuine Ford ESP. Online is fine, but make sure you check United States and Canada BBB Consumer and Business Reviews, Reports, Ratings, Complaints and Accredited Business Listings to see if a potential company is reputable according to them (better business bureau).

Is the online price for a Ford warranty or third party? I would only trust a Ford warranty from everything I have read about the third party crap. I bought mine from a dealer when my car was just over 35k miles for $1800. I put 10% down and Ford financed the rest at 0%, I was pretty happy with that deal.

I would consider Ford only. I have seen the warranties, premium care (the best) with zero deductible 60,000 miles and 72 months (I average less than 7,000 miles per year) for about $800. That's at several dealers selling what they say is genuine Ford warranty.
Anyone deal with a specific company or two?

Back in 2003 I was a service advisor at a Lincoln Dealership. I have delt with the many aftermarket extended warranties, and I would not recommend them to anyone.

The aftermarket esp plans typically have restrictions on repairs and limits that they will pay for parts. The customer is typically responsible for the difference between what the aftermarket warranty would pay for, and what the final bill was.

For example: A customer came in for some front end work. He needed 2 outter tie rods and 1 lower balljoint. His aftermarket warranty covered 1 tie rod and that was it. They had a limit of 1 part per covered catagory per claim. That customer then had to pay out of pocket for the other tie rod, balljoint, alignment and dont forget his deductible! Needless to say, he was pi$$ed!

Buy FORD ESP directly from your dealer. You must do this while still under the factory warranty. Premium care is the best, but its worth it. It covers just about everything accept trim pieces and labor only repairs, however, it does cover wiring repairs.

Look at it this way 2 or 3 decent repairs will more than cover the cost.

+1 on the above. A couple years is ok on a car, but once you hit 4-5 things start hitting the fan so to speak(typically). Usually 100k services happen and something always gets found then that, an esp from Ford will cover, maybe not all the way, but more than aftermarket at least

I guess I am not making myself clear. I am considering only the genuine Ford ESP. There are many dealers on line who sell it, for less than my local dealer wants.
Anyone have any experience with the dealers, I assume all Ford dealers, who sell the warranty on line. Again, I would never consider anything other than Ford. I am looking at the best place to buy it.

Ok, so to be totally clear, you want to buy your FORD ESP online from a Ford dealership's website. Is that correct?

If so, you can buy your ESP from any ford/lincoln/mercury dealership, as long as the vehicle is still under the factory warranty. I was unaware that you could buy geunine Ford ESP online. This is new to me, but I've been out of the game for a little while now.

Just make sure the ESP will show up on your OASIS before you purchase it.

Your OASIS is a print out for your vehicle that shows your warranty info. It prints out every time your Ford dealership writes it up for service. The OASIS is linked to fords database and will only show Ford ESP.

There are many, many places that sell the Ford ESP. Just do a web search. It is unreal. And the prices differ by quite a bit.
That's why I wondered who might have done this and can share some experiences. Somewhere around $800 is the typical price I am seeing for 0 deductible and 60,000 miles for a total of 72 months. 75,000 miles for 72 months and 0 deductible is about $1,100.
Those are all for the premium care.
