Well im looking into buying a new transmission for my car in the near future. Nothing is mechanically wrong with my stock t-45, but i just want a trans with a steep first gear like a, 2.95 or 3.27 first gear. I was looking into either a tko series or a t-56. Now i know the majority is going to say t-56 because of the 6th gear but im not really worried about the sixth gear i just want a trans that with get me out of the hole fast and hold up to power shifting. Like the title says what would you do? Does anyone have any experience with the tko series trans, and t-56. Goods and bads, bring on your answers.

T56 is a better trans. the TKO is not a very good "street car" transmission. it is a bitch to shift under load and they really arent that good of a transmission at all.

my vote would go with a T56. i love mine. my buddy switched from a TKO 600 to a Viper T56 and loves it also!

What is the steepest first gear the t-56 comes with? I have seen a 2.97 is there anything else? Saleen what 5th and 6th gear do you have? Have you ever had any issues with your trans. I mean this is kind of a big choice i want to make sure i make the right one.

I have a T-56, but its a D&D viper spec. It shifts fantastic and can handle at least 750FT-LBM. On top of that, the sixth gear is .50. So even with my 4.10's, I still get ridiculously good RPM and MPG on the highway. Also my first gear I think is 2.66 so I can launch a bit harder without breaking the tires loose, and have a higher top speed in first as well.

So I guess that's a vote for a T-56.

The stock 1st gear in a T45 is something like 3.37:1. Forgive me for being stupid, but if you want a better trans for drag racing why not go with an auto? The 3.37 1st in a T-45 is not significantly different than the 3.27 you say is better. Maybe you need better tires or suspension? Or perhaps different gears if you can't keep traction in 1st. Swapping trans just seems like the last, most expensive thing a person would do to solve a problem getting off the line.

Well its not a trailer queen so an auto is out of the question. If I was ever to do an auto it would be a c4 not a r70w.

An auto means its a trailer queen? I can drive mine on a daily basis if I wanted to with 4.10s and a 3500 stall and still have an impressive holeshot.

I would prefer a manual for the fun of it, but there is no reason a car with an auto is a "trailer queen"

There is a guy that runs down at cecil pretty often and he had a t-45 built by hanlan and he has s-trim, cams, stock shortblock etc and runs low low 11s at 125+ and I think he said he has over 200+ track passes launching the balls out on the tranny and flat shifting her:nice:
