What center consoles or parts can be swapped out making room for heated seat buttons?

I noticed between 1999 and 2004 that there are several different center consoles and I assume they are mostly interchangeable. So I have a 99 with the double cup holders, but I feel like the spot where the second cup holder goes that had a flip top ash tray in it would be the perfect spot for a set of heated seat buttons. Can that piece be swapped out with something else that would allow for that? If not does anyone have any other suggestions?

doesnt the ash tray just slide in place where the cup holder lies?

i could be wrong but thats what it always seemed like to me (i dont have the ash tray...although my car does have the smoker package)

I need a place to drill holes and permanently insert two heated seat buttons where it's accessible to both the driver and passenger. Right where that second cup/ashtray holder would be perfect if it wasn't there.

The removable black plastic ashtray will not do.

Isn't the entire cup section plastic removable? What else can snap in there? Or is their another center console I can completely replace mine with that would have room somewhere for the buttons?

This one looks like it would be perfect where he has that chrome thing with leds on it. What year model is this car?

Well those seats are from an '01 Bullitt but that doesn't mean much. I believe that center console was in 01-04's though.

the center console you are talking about with the flip-up ashtray was from 94-97. then the console that you and i have (mine being a 99 as well) came in 98-00. and the one in the bullitt pictured above is the same as the one in all 01-04's

the problem you will face now is the ones you are looking for are only black or tan....as opposed to the dark gray/charcoal color interiors of the 99-04's your best bet will be to drill a new hole in your center console on each side for the new switch. it will be small and inconspicuous and still easily accessible to both driver and passenger.

That spot would only work for the driver's button but not the passenger.

Well I just ordered the heater consoles but still have not figured this out yet. And mustang50v8 , I just now realized you meant the actual SIDE of the console, and yeah they'd fit there but I think I'd hate the way that would look. That plastic cup holder piece that snaps out can't be replaced with any fancy aftermarket version that has room for buttons? It's starting to seem like patman0911's idea of putting them between the traction control and cigarette lighter may be the only option.

Anywhere on the seat base it can go? IMO, it doesn't have to be right next to the seat to be convenient. The radio is on the dash, you have to reach up to use it and it's not that inconvenient?

Don't feel bad, even car manufactures can't figure out where to put them sometimes. My wife ended up with an Avalon for a few days recently and the heated seats had been left on and were uncomfortably toasty - we finally found the buttons hidden down low on the door panels  So I guess there's precedence for putting them on the door panels too then.

Somewhere on the seat itself is a good idea too if you could make that work. Would make wiring simpler too, and probably safer if all the power is routed through the switch.

I have been wondering this two. I was either going to put them in the shifter bezel since my TC button is in the radio bezel, Somewhere on the seat itself, or with the rest of the buttons on the door. I figured I could put my button underneath the two window buttons on the door and the passenger one in the same spot on the other door. Seems to me like the best place to put them.
