Why is the under body of new Mustangs all rusted?

Have you ever took a look at the under body? mainly the rear is all rusted. I mean maybe it's not rust but mine is all brown. Two weeks after I bought my Mustang I took it in for service and when the guy lifted the car up the bottom was all rusty. I asked him what it was he said don't worry about it, maybe he didn't know. Is this normal for our cars? are they suppose to rust like that?

The rear axle and the stock exhaust manifolds both are made of iron, and will rust as a protective barrier. It has nothing to do with the poor coating from the factory. All (of the newer Mustangs at least) are like this. If you don't like it, have your axle powdercoated.

I noticed it on mine too and wasn't real happy about it.I also thought they would of had some kind of protector on it.I would have got in their and painted it all myself if i knew it was going to rust up that fast

^x2, like was said earlier, there is a layer of surface rust that, once it forms, acts as a barrier to any further oxidation. Unless you plan on putting a lift kit on your 'stang, I wouldn't worry about it.

Rust is not a protective barrier and your floorpans will eventually rust out and need replacing unless you treat them.Eastwood makes some great products for this. I k ow you probably won't have the car when it happens, but somebody 20 yrs. from now will appreciate it.
