Hey guys, I have an 04 gt auto with 4.10s and 1st gear is unusable. I have a predator tune and when I go from a stop and roll on to the gas I can only get to like half throttle and about 3750 rpm to shift with a mild chirp. Anything above that and I will just spin forever. I have it at the softest shift setting but it still breaks loose! I have 245s now but am picking up 315s in a month. Anyone have the problem? Did 315s help at all? Any other settings I could adjust?

Forgot to do your homework. Gears are worthless without proper traction. They actually make your car slower unless you can hook up correctly. You need a softer compound tire, not just a wider tire. A good set of 245-17's can out hook a set of 315-17's.

Once you start spinning on street tires, you better hope to hook up soon and have 100-200hp+ on the car next to you, or the race is over.

Throwing a set of wider tires out back is not always the solution.

Your tires suck. With 4.10s and my stock tires my car was a nightmare on the street. I went to 275s Pilot Sports then 295 KDW2s and things are good again. :nice:

Width isnt everything. The compound makes a huge difference too. The Pilot Sports gave no traction unless it was HOT out. The BFGs grip cold road so much better.

Well of course gears are useless without traction, I was just got them until I could afford new rims with some 315s out back. I know the car well enough that in a race I can control the spin now, I was looking for a setting to soften the shift even more. I mainly spin because of the jolt when the shift happens. Well I am probably gonna get the the ones that come with the package and then invest in some street radials.

I run the Nitto DOT drag radials on mine with a T5 and 4.10s and love em! You only get about 15K to 16K miles out of them but they are cheap. I run 28psi on the street and 22psi on the strip. A little sloppy if you are a corner carver though.

Expounding on what Winters said, some tires with a softer compound will make a much bigger difference than wider tires. I pull 1.7 60' times on my 245-45-17 555R nittos with basically stock junk suspension components. A lot of people here with 315 width street tires will struggle to get 2.1 60' times on regular street tires, yet the nittos will last 10-12+k miles in normal street driving.

What kind of tires are you running now? They must be junk, because even my bald 245 width yokohamas will pretty much hold my GT in 1st with 3.27 gears (10.95:1 overall gear ratio for my GT vs 10.09 gear ratio for your auto GT). If you don't get a drag radial, at least get a soft summer tire.

Haha I have crappy tires now and I am going to 555s when I go with the 315s. I am not getting the radials cause I carve corners quite a bit.

I bet your car hold in 1st, it doesn't have 4.10s, 3.27 are a whole different ball game

If you get 40K out of 555s you either don't have enough power or not enough leg to reach the full swing of your throttle. I have 275/60R15 Nitto Extreme 555R DOT drag radials on mine and only get 15k to 16k miles. Don't sweat it though, they are only $136.00 each shipped from discounttiredirect.com.

The 555s are the regular street tire, and I got over 40k out of my last set with a LOT of abuse. You are talking about the 555Rs, which are the drag radial and only supposed to last 10-15k.

Haha I go to school in florida and live in Los Angles, winter is no problem! I have seen all the different nittos and I am gonna try out the ones that come in the kit. I am using them for daily driving and the random track event that requires street tires. If I need better traction I will order 2 17x9 and run 285s dd and get some crazy street legal radials!
