Hey all, I have been occasionally searching the net for some basic stuff and getting little info, maybe you can help. What are the quarter mile times for a stock GT500? How about the Super snakes? With slicks and stock?
Another thing that I have been wondering about was the differences between the 5.8 and the 5.0? (New ones that is) I mean, is there a big weight difference, IE, the 5.0 is lighter? Why did they come out with the new 5.0 when the 5.8 is capable of much more power if not for weight? I mean, the new heads for the 5.0 are nice, but couldn't they have developed the same thing for the 5.8 and saved money on having just one block design?

The 5.8 in the gt500 is for the 2013 model which hasn't really come out yet so there are no numbers for it yet. The latest gt500s had a aluminum 5.4L engine. And the main weight difference between the 5.4l and the 5.0l was that the 5.4 had a supercharger on it that weighs a lot. The stock gt500 did about a 12.2 on stock tires which i think could of been better tires. With slicks you can knock almost a second off that. Super snake with slicks will dip into the 10s. Also Shelby mostly controls the gt500 and it came out with the new aluminum 5.4l a year before the 5.0 came out. Same thing with the 5.8 that's coming out this year, Shelby decided on it.

Shelby does not have that much pull on the GT500, that's almost all SVT. From what I've read his input on the 2013 was cursory.
