Most likely will have to do a PI head swap/ intake ect. altho I am not 100% on vortecs

Incorrect. The heads and intake have NOTHING to do with getting the vortec to work.

To the OP all you need is the specific brackets and little odds and ends to make the vortech work on your car. The most expensive parts will most likely be the regulator and the bracket that mounts the blower to the front of the car. Head over to vortecs site, download the instructions for your car. In the instructions there is a list of parts and their respective PN's. Then I would start looking on ebay for a bracket. It's that simple. Take note of all the other little stuff that may be specific to your car, there shouldn't be much.

I would also look into doing a FMIC along with the install. You can pick up a cxracing IC on ebay with piping on the cheap and make even more power. With that said I would caution you against doing a PI swap because of the added compression. Added compression and boost can be both a bad and a good thing but the added compression that the PI swap will give you will limit your boost. I would just keep the NPI stuff until you can afford to build the engine.

So in short buy the blower.

Darkside,

thanks. fmic...intercooler? im taking it. im new to the lingo i know most stuff about working on this thing but i dont know jack about forced induction so anything you can give me a heads up on is much appreciated....i wanted to go with a different top end i was thinking just a pi intake for well just more space...think thats a bad idea? what would you pair with it keeping it under 1k in the price tag?

Yes, FMIC stands for Front Mount InterCooler.

Honestly I wouldn't bother with doing the PI intake right now. I say this because unless you plan on using adapter plates you will run the risk of ending up with a leak because the intake is not designed for those heads and will require a lot of RTV. When you throw boost into the mix it isn't a good idea IMOP. Adding adapter plates will add to your cost also and if you later add PI heads that money spent on plates is down the drain.

I would simply buy the blower, add either a CXracing or Treadstone FMIC and enjoy the car for a while. You should have no problem adding at least 125rwhp if not more. Start saving for PI heads and a built engine. You should have no problem doing the blower and intercooler for 2-2.5k with quality parts.

BradleyMustang3...the only difference I have noticed in both set-ups (NPI vs PI) is in the mounting bracket. I have had both set-ups on my car and both brackets on my car and I remember that one of the brackets (I forget which) has a sort of round finger thick extension that meets the front cover where a pulley is. The other doesn't have that extension. If the bracket has the extension and doesn't fit the front cover because of it, then all you have to do is cut it off the bracket and smooth the surface down and it will fit. If the bracket does not have it and you do need it, then you will not be able to use the bracket. You will have to buy one online. Oh, and I believe the NPI set-up comes with some kind of fuel management unit also...

Now let me just advise you to stay under 10 lbs of boost. If you have a good tuner then maybe, maybe, 12...however your best bet is to stick with 8lbs. You will enjoy the power, the engine will be safe, and you can add more boost when you start getting used to, or bored with, the power. And BTW, if you got an entire set-up for $800 then you've got the best deal ever. Even if it's just a tuner kit, you got one heck of a deal!!

Basically all you would need is the proper bracket, kits are designed 96-99 and 00-04 then the differences in the fuel system make up for the rest of the options for what you need.

You'll need some simple things:

-Blower and oil lines/fittings
-Bracket, hardware and a good Vortech belt
-Intake piping, MAF, Filter and IAT sensor
-Fuel system, new FMU and 225lph fuel pump.

And install it non intercooled and you'll have between 330-380rwhp depending on your other mods. Go with a intercooled setup if you're truly needing more power 10-40rwhp more, but I live in FL and have been running non intercooled for over a year (18k boosted) and almost 150k miles on my car...

yeah i did i put the charger itself on my bookshelf so i have to look at it everyday (more motivation to get the things i need to put it on) and yes 800 it was on a 2000 and he let me drive the car a bit to show it was in good working order then we had a few beers while he took it off haha

i was thinking to go with a stage two cam from American Muscle i heard ill get good torque out of those and theyre good for daily driving. i was thinking trying to find a cobra block though. the forged internals are worth it alone if im really gonna do the whole forced induction thing...and worst comes to worst i can sell the kit for 1000 and not lose out on anything really.

by the way thanks for all the tips guys i really appreciate it!
