Looking Into Building A Top End For My Rebuild

Gearbanger - I may not take the heads off, and just use the gt40s that come on it. This can at least be my start for the winter. Get a good explorer engine, get it mounted up to my current trans (stock tremec t5 - will this work?), and get it running.

Redoing the bearings, and pistons rings I am iffy on doing from 1) lack of expierience (hands on), and 2) A clean well lit work area to do it in. And gettng the fresh bore and hone just isnt in my budget :(

If the cylinder walls aren't scored, then a bore won't be necessary. The honeing would simply be to help the new rings seat (should you decide to change them). Any major auto parts store will carry a basic hone and they're not at all expensive. All you'd need for that job is a little WD40 and a steady hand.

Sorry for thread jacking, swapping an explorer engine in my 88 Vert sounds like a good idea in the future but one question i had is i know that they flow better then the stock 5.0 HO but why are they rated at only 210hp? does it have to do with emission restrictions?

Cam is a truck cam that it's ground for optimal tq. The exhaust was super restrictive and the automatic transmission killed it. With an HO cam and mustang headers you should see art least 250 to the wheels.

Jenkins- If your going to drop an explorer engine in your car.... well let me know what you do with those Thumpers. You may be able to sell the heads on your current setup to offset the cost of a new one. They would sure work out well in the 351 im building for my bronco.
