So as some know I posted a couple months back about my Cobra having a tapping/ticking sound for a few seconds on startup and very faintly after warmup. I thought it was the normal "tick" Cobras get:shrug: I was just outside playing with the car and decided to see how she runs with the Jet chip pulled and upon startup it was emediatly (spelling) apparent the tick was gone! Completly gone! I wont know till tomm. if its all good with a cold start, but this appears to have done it!

Now I know why I have NEVER seen a Jet chip in a Stang:nonono:
Third experience with a Jet chip and they all stunk. Previous owner put it in, glad I pulled it. Althoe I did notice a slight performance decrease:(

Oh well, better safe than sorry!

My bad, it did not stop. :( Just started it this morning and it still has the sound (sound just like a Gecko, not the one on T.V. from Geico) Sorry guys, mabey the Jet chip dont suck

Oh well back to the drawing board. Another thing is my heads only have about 5K on them. The previous guy used the original parts (valves, springs, rockers etc.) but the heads were new pieces:shrug:

I heard that installing ONLY a motorcraft oil filter will fix the cold start rattle/tick issue. I have an 01 GT and it does the same thing until it warms up. I'm using a fram filter right now. I will give the motorcraft filter a try when I do my next oil change. Anyone else heard of this working?

There is no cure..... My 99 did it and my 04 does it. Motorcraft or Fram
no difference. Goes away after 1 second at cold start. Ive tried all kinds of
oil, different weights, synthetic or conventional. BTW The motorcraft filter
is overrated IMO.

how is it overrated? its one of the cheapest good quality filters:shrug:

I almost always use motorcraft but I really dont think theres anything far superior
about them, I mean a lot of stangnet members rave about how they will use
nothing else but MC and they are fine but there are other brands that are
just as good , or better.

mc is $3 at walmart. why pay 3-4x as much for a filter that's similar, and no that nut on the housing is not a good reason.

Oil filters do not pump oil to the top of the valvetrain during cold start ups, they filter dirt.

On the original post: Pulling a computer chip will not supply oil to your valvetrain. You need to bring it to the dealer, tell them your JET chip is messing up the Vtak regulator.

hey bud to fix the problem all you need to do is add another 1/4 to 1/2 a quart of oil and it wont do that any more. the tick is your rockers with no il on them. i know what your dip stick says but trust me, that should fix it right up. If you want some really good power get a costum tune on it instead of the chip tune(if you dont already)

obviously you are not familiar with the infamous head tick...

Thread Back From The Dead!
I got an email that there was a reply to this thread. Its been a while since i've been on here so I had to check it out. I re-read the entire thread just for old time sakes lol. Anywhy hope everyone is doing okay.

P.S. I don't recommend filling past the fill line on your dip stick (especially if you love to hit the red line)...In my personal experience I have never had a problem filling my oil AT the full line on the dip stick, HAVE YOU?

And I still think its the v-tech making that sound!!! ;)
