BluePrint Engines 50 State Legal Long Block Engines

$5299 is a lot of money for an bare iron headed long block. They also have two part #'s, one for 1991-1995 and one for 1985-1996, and no details to differentiate between the two.

Progress Thread Therapy Car-- Freshening Up the Lower Intake

I would switch to vinyl caps like these: https://shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/dorman-autograde-vinyl-color-vacuum-cap-assortment-47397/89015274-P?searchTerm=Vacuum+Caps I have had the same problems you had with parts store rubber caps. They are crap.

Progress Thread Therapy Car-- Freshening Up the Lower Intake

I used a Dorman 902-1003 to replace my leaky OEM one. The quality is OK, but I had to "port" the inside, as there was quite a bit of casting flash in there. They are dirt cheap at around $10 on Amazon. I haven't had any issue with it leaking since. View...

    Engine Need RMS repair sleeve

I think most of the cost of the LMR part is the installation tool. Rock auto shows the Fel-Pro Sleeve for $2.91 and the Fel-Pro Install tool for $45.79! They also have a Victor-Reinz Tool for $28.79. The Fel-Pro 16250 is the right sleeve, I used one on my car a few years ago. That...

    Battery help

And they are now in the range of $250+. I may look to another AGM battery when my current 9 year old red top dies.

Progress Thread Therapy Car-- Freshening Up the Lower Intake

I think it may be a gasket issue as well. I have had to re-torque the water pump bolts a few times to stop small timing cover leaks. X3 on dropping the pan when you install the cover. But a $60, that LMR timing cover looks pretty temping. I'm surprised that the LMR is cheaper than rock auto...

    Thinking about buying this car

I agree with the others, RUN AWAY. If the outside of the engine looks like that, I can only guess how bad the inside is. I can understand a few leaks, but that is truly awful.

Build Thread My Never Ending 89 Notch Thread

That is a cool car, I have always had a soft spot for mid-60's full size Chevys. The fact it is your dad's car is even better. What engine did it have back in the day?

Build Thread 1978 Fairmont. I bet somebody back home’s thinkin’…I wonder why he don’t write..?

Mike, The tire I think you are looking for is the NT555R2, which is the drag radial version of the NT555 you pictured above. Here they are side by side (drag radial on right): https://www.nittotire.com/media/deen52aj/tires.png

    spark plug boot

I agree with the others - get new wires. I have been using these Blue Streak wires on my car for a couple of years, and they have held up well so far. https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.php?pk=5952255&cc=1134010&pt=7224&jsn=1345 As a bonus, they fit my MSD wire looms perfectly. Just about...

Electrical 1990 - 1993 Clockspring Information and Repair

Nice job on the write-up. I may have to file that away for future use. That is the kind of tech I like to find when I do searches here. If Indy only could channel his knowledge for good. Too bad his personality gets in the way.

Interior and Upholstery AC Clutch removal and install questions

First thing you need to do is clean the inside of clutch hub really well. There are internal threads there, but yours are full of dirt. I think the puller you need to use is one the four on the bottom right of the toolkit. Just screw the outer part of the puller into the hub, and tighten the...

Progress Thread Pete is checking out these valve covers

Thanks for the information Pete. I was looking at that product online, glad to hear some real world experience with it. I am still waffling between Frosty Cool and r134 though. My AC system is going to be all new with the exception of the evaporator (which is going to be flushed) and the...

Progress Thread Therapy Car-- Freshening Up the Lower Intake

Is there coolant pooled on both right and left sides of the timing cover? I had similar issue, and my problem was the thermostat housing and gasket. Those are pretty cheap and easy, it would be easy to rule out as your problem.
