    High volume oil pump

So when is it worth getting a high volume oil pump? Are they only a must have for a high revving, high horse power motors or can a daily driver, 289 expected to make 300 -350hp use them as well. Only asking as I'm about to get one myself and if I dont need to go high volume then I wont.

Edelbrock E Street Heads - Any thoughts?

Thanks for all the feedback. Has been a great help. Just one more question.....for now  With the 268H camshaft, can I get away with using the springs that come on the performer RPM heads or am I better off using the ones that comp cams recommend to use with the cam. I've...

Edelbrock E Street Heads - Any thoughts?

So would that apply to all types of headers or just certain ones? I'm running tri-Y's at the moment. Am I gonna have the same problem? Saving up for the best heads does make a lot of sense. It may be a good idea to buy ones that allow for a bit more room for improvements. Definately...

Edelbrock E Street Heads - Any thoughts?

Loving the feedback. :nice: Food for thought thats for sure. At this stage I'm pretty sure I'm gonna stick with the cam I listed earlier. I didn't want anything that was too aggressive yet something that was an improvement from the stock cam. Unless somebodies got a better suggestion...

Edelbrock E Street Heads - Any thoughts?

Yeah the heads are OEM 54-56cc iron. The Windsor Jr's are closer to stock CC volume which is one of the reasons I leaned towards them in the first place. I don't really want to screw around too much with the CR and the aluminum heads are a bit of a jump up from stock. I realise my CR will change...

Edelbrock E Street Heads - Any thoughts?

Trans is C4 auto, Rear end gears are either 2.83:1 or 3.20:1, cant quite remember. More than likely I'll be upgrading the torque converter while the engines out and possibly a shift kit as well depending on the budget. Engine is still running good so can only assume short block is in good...

    Cam change Questions

Thanks for the replies guys. At this stage the plan is to take it out and do a full tear down. More than likely it'll be hot tanked in which case the bearings will need replacing right? Unless of course I decide to save myself a bit of money and clean it myself :D

Edelbrock E Street Heads - Any thoughts?

I'm currently looking at some options for upgrading the stock heads on my '66 289 and came across the Edelbrock E-street aluminum cylinder heads. Here's the link. Edelbrock E-Street Cylinder Heads 5023 - Edelbrock E-Street Cylinder Heads - Overview - SummitRacing.com Has any body got a...

    Cam change Questions

So this may be a no brainer for most people on here but I thought I'd ask anyway. When doing a cam shaft and timing gear change......'66 289 4V BTW, is it necessary to replace the cam shaft thrust plate and bearing as well or can the existing one be used? What about the fuel pump eccentric...

Engine Block machine work - whats the minimum to have done?

Yeah It can get up there. I added up my parts list last night and it came pretty close to that price and that was without the machine work to the block or the heads. I'm planning on converting to roller rockers and getting rid of the rail style as I wanted to upgrade from the stock cam. If I'm...

Engine Block machine work - whats the minimum to have done?

Thats kinda where it started with a cam, carb and intake change but now it's ballooned into a full rebuild :D I was gonna go ahead and just get the .030 over sized pistons anyway as they're the same price as the stock size. I guess thats off set though by having to bore out the cylinders...

Engine Block machine work - whats the minimum to have done?

Thanks for the replies guys. Much appreciated. I guess a lot of it depends on the condition of the block and what kind of life it's had. I'm kinda going into this assuming the P.O's haven't done anything to the engine aside from an oil and filter change  I think I'm limited to who...

Engine Block machine work - whats the minimum to have done?

So if one was to go to the trouble of a complete tear down of the engine for a rebuild, as far as machine work to the block is concerned, what would be the things you would do over others. Assuming the car will never see strip/track time and will be an occasional weekend cruiser...weather...

    Carb install confusion

So I'm about to upgrade my intake and carb on a stock 289 4V but have a few questions that are kinda nagging at me. I'm upgrading to a weiand stealth intake and a Holley SA 570 W/electric choke. My question is about the tranny kickdown lever/linkage stuff on the carb. The '66 289 has the...
