Why not use a short piece of gas hose, with like 1/8 or 3/16 inner diameter, slice it place it around the cable and go around it a few times with electrical tape or use a small hose clamp.

I didnt think about intake temps either but that should mean you can add some more timing as well. adding a few gallons of race gas (at least 50/50 with pump gas) and you should be able to get away with 20-24 degrees of timing depending on intake temps.

Diesel's yes all the time. On gas motors I've only heard of them being used as an Anti-lag for large turbos, on Auto trans cars with a lowish stall converter.
