My fob has an led but it's for an aftermarket security system. I found one module behind the glove box and the other (the one with the settings) beneath the removeable bin inside the arm rest. One screw, IIRC.

I have one like that but it's aftermarket. The OEM didn't have an led, AFAIK. Might check the battery in the key fob. It may have enough to light the led but not enough to transmit.
