    Changed Timing Belt, now Knocking...???

Yes, thank you for the response. After much research, I discovered exactly what you posted. Against that gut feeling in my stomach, I drove it. Went away once the engine temp started to rise. I'll try it again tomorrow after a full cool down, but I now have high hopes. Other than...

    Changed Timing Belt, now Knocking...???

I just changed the timing belt on my 91LX. I lined up the cam and crank gears, checked it about 10 times now. Its a DIS car, but I lined up the auxiliary shaft gear anyways. Got it all together, started right up, but there's a loud knocking (more like a tapping) under the valve covers...

    Swap to carb?

Injector pulsewidth, hot start fuel tables, cold start fuel tables, part throttle tables, injector timing tables matching camshaft events, leaning or enrichening a fuel curve at a specific RPM... Some people love tinkering with those things, others hate it. Simplicity is king in the carbed...

    Aluminum Head Question

I've found that 99% of internet fights begin with a misunderstanding. Black letters on a computer screen don't convey emotion or meaning very well.

    Swap to carb?

Modular2v, clear your PM box. I've been trying to PM you for a few days now. Have you been getting my emails through stangnet?

    Aluminum Head Question

Woah, what happened here? Anyways, found a scale and weighed them in box. 68lbs! 2 lbs under the max for USPS. Thank you to everyone for their help.

USPS max weight is 70lbs, hope they're under that.

    Aluminum Head Question

What does a pair of aluminum heads weigh? Fully assembled, AFR's if it matters. I'm trying to calculate postage, they're in their original box if it matters. Thanks

    My Cam doesn't fit. :(

Yeah, maybe I did measure it wrong. Will worry about that after I deal with quench.

    My Cam doesn't fit. :(

I'm going to address this quench problem first, pulling the rotating assembly and getting a zero deck. Here's the cam specs for the EC cam: Gross lift- int .6001 exh .5797 Duration at .050- 228* 234* Separation 111*

    My Cam doesn't fit. :(

Do you think just keeping a standard head gasket (say .040) and having a total area of .074 will cause detonation problems? Ed Curtis communicated me on corral, wants me to double check everything. DSS pistons, according to Ed, should give me plenty of clearance.

    My Cam doesn't fit. :(

I measured P/V clearance using the drop valve method and a "solidified" lifter. Exhaust .069 Intake .089 Head Gasket installed. 1978 351W Block Brand New DSS Flat top Forged pistons .034 in the hole. Brand New AFR 185cc Heads Ed Curtis Cam Very dissapointing, but glad I checked...

    Considering helping friend with longtubes...

Well, I've got a friend whose in a bind. He's got a 99 Cobra and tried to install longtubes himself, but didn't quite succeed. He got the car back together and is going to pay to have them done. I'm very mechanically inclined, I've done tons of longtubes on 5.0's, transmission jobs, and am...

    Stud Mount Rockers

This is my first time installing stud mount rockers, always used pedestal. Are the rockers supposed to be suspended up the stud by the valve and the pushrod? In other words, unlike pedestal, does the middle of the rocker not rest on anything? Also, in that rotating part of the rocker...

A good tip if you rent a U-haul!

Neat trick, but I wouldn't do it. With my luck, I'd F up the truck and get caught. The only thing I "steal" is those few drops of gas left in the hose after you shut the pump off.

    Oilpan Rails 351W

I don't have the oilpan rails (those two solid pieces that the bolts tension up onto the pan) for my 351W. The rails off of my 302 fit the pan close enough to where only one corner needs to be grinded a little, and the front bolt hole widened. With those mods, it would fit perfectly. Would...

    Worried about my combo, input?

I'm worried that the heads I previously decided on may not be up to par for the rest of the combo. Its a 351W DSS Flat Top pistons Comp Cam, .6001 Intake .5797 Exh// Duration .050 228/234 // Sep 111* Trick Flow R 351 Intake 1 3/4 LT Headers 75mm TB My original plan was AFR 185's...

what major things go bad on the 2.3

Man, I'm speechless. Really sorry to hear that. I guess an upside is that 2.3's can be found anywhere.

Didn't happen on mine until 210,000 miles. Currently on 243,000 miles, original valve cover gasket.
