I already posted this on the tbird forums, but I figured I would post it here in case anyone is looking for a nice daily driver. I have a 95 Ford Thunderbird LX for sale. 4.6L, 4R70W trans, black with a grey interior, and only 80K miles. 1995 Ford Thunderbird I bought this car with a...

    393 oil consumption problem

Interesting. Well it can't hurt. I'll do that next time it comes apart. This morning I went and checked the valve seals, thinking maybe they somehow got torn up again. The seals were fine, so I'm pretty much back to square one. I talked to a guy I know who works at a performance shop, and...

    393 oil consumption problem

I don't have instructions. I bought the heads used. I had the studs out while doing the valve seals cause I had to clearance the pushrod guides, and I looked down them and the holes didn't go through. I will check again anyway since I will have the rockers off anyway to check the seals.

    393 oil consumption problem

The rocker stud holes don't go all the way through.

    393 oil consumption problem

Fast63, I had the PCV system disconnected, leaving just a breather in the valve cover, and I still had oil in the intake. I have since hooked it up with the PCV valve in the valve cover instead of the intake, since I thought that might be the problem. There was no change. The amount of oil in...

    393 oil consumption problem

Ok, a little update here. I pulled the valve springs off, and found that the valve seals that the machine shop put on there were too big, and the inside spring on the holley heads ripped every valve seal to shreds. With the help of a friend of mine who has been helping me with the car, we...

    Thunderbirds

Window regulator is pretty easy, no readjusting necessary. If should be held in with rivets. There was a factory option for a CD player, however it was very rare, and it did have a different harness that was part of the dashboard harness, so the only way to use a factory one would be to find a...

    The Best Gas Guzzlage

It is not true that driving the speed limit will get you better gas mileage. Any internal combustion engine is most efficient at whatever rpms it makes peak torque. As you get closer to that rpm, the engine is more efficient, and as you get farther from it, it gets less efficient. Air...

    393 oil consumption problem

There are no external leaks at all. I used whatever valve seals came in the fel-pro head kit, so I don't know what they are made of. Today I'll try disabling the PCV system first, since that is cheap and easy, and if it still burns the oil I will pull the valve seals and swap them.

    393 oil consumption problem

I did a compression and leakdown test today. All the cylinders showed between 165 and 175psi, and 2-3% leakdown, so at least I don't have to tear apart my bottom end. All 8 spark plugs were black with oil, and when I removed the upper intake so I could get the valve covers off to check the valve...

    393 oil consumption problem

All the rings are low tension, they all came together as a set. As for why low tension rings, more power. Every little bit helps.

    393 oil consumption problem

I don't know what could cause it to use this much oil. I parked the car at the shop and had my grandmother give me a ride home cause she lives just down the street from the shop. Tomorrow I'll do a compression and leakdown test and see what I find. One guy on tccoa.com said that the holley...

    393 oil consumption problem

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hello all. I don't post here too much cause I drive a cougar, not a mustang, but I have a problem that I can't figure out, so I am trying everywhere I can think of to see if anyone knows what is going on. The...

Slight mess-up with a 393 build...question for people who build a lot of motors

Well I have built a few motors before, but prior to this 393 I'm building, I had never done a stroker before. Anyway, I made the mistake of not assembling everything and checking for clearance issues before I sent the rotating assembly out to get balanced. I had put the crank in the block, and...

ticking noise and down on power...help

Well, I didn't rotate it when I tightened them. If that causes the symptoms that I have, then I'll pull the valve covers off and adjust the rockers. Thanks for the help. Hopefully this will solve my problems. Would that cause me to be down on power this much too?

ticking noise and down on power...help

Well the original motor is gone and this one only has about 65000 on the bottom end. The rocker arms are stock ones for a 95 GT. They are not roller rockers, and when I put the heads on I torqued all the rocker arms to 22ft-lbs. so I don't think they are causing the problem, but it could be...

ticking noise and down on power...help

Ok, my car is actually not a mustang, it is a 91 cougar, but it has a 5.0 in it, so hopefully someone here can help. The motor is out of a 95 mustang GT and I swapped in a B-303 cam and GT-40 heads, bypassed the smog pump, and deleted all the A/C stuff. Here is the problem. There is a ticking...

What if your cam was 360 off?

but since each valve only opens once every 720 degrees of crankshaft rotation, then the cam could be opening the wrong valves and the engine would run because it is still getting air, fuel, and spark, but the pistons wouldn't be at quite the right spot, and the fuel injectors would be firing at...

What if your cam was 360 off?

The car that I am asking this about is actually a 91 cougar, but it has a 5.0HO in it, so engine-wise it is pretty much the same as a 94/95 mustang. I had it all apart and while I was there I installed GT-40 heads, a b-303 cam, 65mm TB, and a 3000 stall converter. Now the car starts and runs...
