Believe me, I have tried pumping slower. If you pump slower, the pump will not click off, it will merely pump the fuel right out of the tank onto the side of your car and then onto the ground.

And in my opinion, Ford shouldn't be able to get away with leaving them unrepaired. It's not only ridiculously inconvenient, but it is also a safety and environmental issue (at least in the cases where it not only shuts off but also spews out).
