The cables help secure the top to the frame. I would order some new ones if yours have snapped.

So the convertible top hold down cables are held on by small aluminium clips that are riveted to the top frame. Of course I managed to break one when clamping it back down over my cable while replacing my top. I checked with the local dealership and verified that these are (of course) no longer...

That works like a charm everytime. Just dont cover them really tight cause your car will stop running from not being able to get the exhaust out. Just like the potato on the tailpipe trick.

If they are in the garage then condensation can build up if you are going through some temp changes. Keep em covered in a trash bag when you arent working on em.

I usually just notch the bolt with a dremel cut off wheel and back it out with a flathead screwdriver. If that dosent work for you, you can weld a nut on top of the broken bolt and back that out. That is if you have/know someone with a welder.
