How to disable factory alarm in '97 Stang

My wife has sent me this email about her boss's 1997 Mustang: ************** Mary’s car alarm has started to randomly go off. The clicker doesn’t quiet it, she must put her key in the passenger door. The dealer says it cannot be disengaged; that he could disengage the trunk only. Can...

    G-Bar rear exhaust photo

When you jack the chassis, the springs will push the axle into full droop. Even without springs, the axle will go into full droop when you jack up the chassis. I would consider some '65 GT350 style cables, running between the chassis and the axle, to limit droop. I think in normal driving...

    Milodyne bushings, worse than poly.

Hold it right there Pilgrim. The upper control arm is steel on steel. If it's squeaking even after a lube I'd say the nut is screwed on too tight.

    Best Cleveland style heads?

You go first: how can you claim the canted splayed valve head was a Chevy original when Plymouth introduced the "polysphere" motor in 1955 (as was already pointed out to you)? Also already pointed out, Chevy's own '58 and up "W" motor, with the weird in-the-block combustion chamber, had...

    Best Cleveland style heads?

The thing about these arguments about who did what 30 and 40 years ago is that those who have been doing it for that long have gotten a lot of practice, adding little bits of favorable trivia as they go, and ignoring the unfavorable ones. I have to ask, though, who cares what Chevy did for the...

    Best Cleveland style heads?

For that matter, Chevy's '58-'64 "W" 358 & 409 ci big block heads had splayed valves. But how can Chevy claim originality when the ARDUN head for the Ford flathead V8 had crossflow hemi heads, which Mopar then copied? Nothing new under the sun.

    Best Cleveland style heads?

I wonder if it's because 800-850 hp stock block engines would be such hand grenades they'd never be able to show the green between all the oil slick cleanups.:(

    Best Cleveland style heads?

Regarding the Cup engines, I was reading my March '08 Hot Rod magazine on the way to work this morning, turned the page and there was a big writeup on the new Chevy "R07" Cup car engine. 358 ci, 12:1 CR, max bore per rule of 4.185", 800-850 hp. Read all about it here, and you will see how...

News flash: Airflow Dynamics, aka, AFD, is just about to realease three new alloy heads for the Clevo. Here's the AFD web site, although these new products are not up on the web site yet. Here's a post from last Thursday from AFD Dave himself to the Cleveland Forum: The part about the price...

    Pushrod Length

I noticed the missing nuts from the head studs and it makes me wonder if you've got a head gasket in place. A head gasket will add about .040" to the mix, which would knock this same amount off the pushrod length, all else being equal.

    Hybrid Engine in '67 Mustang?

Reading a recent Road & Track last night (the one with the blue ZR1 Vette on the cover), I noticed that five cars in a row mentioned in stories in the mag -- BMW M3, Audi S4, Lexus IS, Dodge Caliber SRT-4, and Mazdaspeed 3 -- get mileage about the same as my '65 C code 289 with an AFB carb, T-5...

    Lifters

Nobody's mentioned the first line of defense: Marvel Mystery Oil. As for 67rcks, let's just say I respectfully disagree. One bad lifter does not mean a worn cam, cracked pistons, etc. (I don't even know what a "cam seat" is.) You can replace one lifter or all of them. I would replace...

    High power 260/289's

You aren't going to get much from a 260 because the small bore shrouds the valves. The 289, on the other hand, was capable of some high revs even before today's aftermarket heads. The Ford GT40s could hit 200 mph and those motors were pretty mild in comparison to what you'd get with a solid...

    Hone-O-Drive anyone?

What a trip down memory lane. How I remember the big spreads Baldwin Motion used to publish in Popular Hot Rodding in the '71-'72 era. I think I had a mail order catalog too. Hone-O-Drive was always a featured product. As I recall they'd tout a 4.56:1 gear to go with the Hone-O-Drive. For...

Not to highjack the thread, but I'm using a pair of Wysco breather baffles, pn WA6090, $23 apiece at Jegs http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_10001_10002_420028_-1 and a Wysco breather and matching PCV valve, pn WA6111POL, $43 for the pair at Jegs...

    LS1 Heads on a Ford

A couple posts in that thread mention Cleveland-headed SBC's. That sounds interesting, too, with all the super cheap 383 SBC shortblocks out there. What would you call this? A Clevely? A Chevland?

Which valve stem seals to use?

I have some iron heads I believe are date coded 1987, with pedestal mount rockers. I need to put new valve stem seals on the exhaust valves. (The umbrella style units on there now are too thick to go beyond .450" lift.) What is the recommendation? I have some of the soft umbrella style ones...
