hey guys i am looking for a new stang. found a black 01 cobra vert 7 hrs from me for 12995. i just did an autocheck on it (similar to carfax) and found some issues and wanted some input 1st problem is it was lemon lawed 10/18/02 and 8/10/05 is was in an accident left front with the airbags deployed. i am curious about the lemon issue mainly. did this happen to many 99/01s due to the issues they had? i havent seen the car in person as it is a long ways away. im going to bring up the issues to the salesman when he calls back. so should i run away or just talk him down. im thinking if it is all ok and i can get it down to 10k then it wouldnt be a bad deal. its a 4 owner car i believe
i was thinking of buying a 99 cobra vert that was in toledo. it was triple black, 81K, needed front tires an had some ugly sticker on the hood. he said the least he could take was $8K. I'd avoid the one you're talking about myself unless they offered me a killer price, then I'd have a shop check it out. i'm not aware of the 01's having issues, i think some of the early 99's had head problems an were recalled and replaced.
Not sure why that particular '01 was a lemon case - it could have been any number of things though that led to it being a lemon car (the horsepower issue from the 99's were corrected though for 01 model year). There were no major instances of lemon law '01s to my knowledge (albiet the small handful of '01s that had "pinging engines" from the factory - it was a very small percentage and if it's still present you'll be able to hear it in the engine). You'll have to do some digging on your own and research why that particular '01 was subject to lemon law (might mean calling up SVT and/or asking a Ford dealer to look up its service history/OASIS report if that's even possible still). G'luck with it - it might be better to move on and consider other similar cobras instead if the lemon law aspect of that specific cobra is bothersome to you...
