I'm trying to choose an exhaust system for my 03 Cobra Conv. I had a 99 Roush Cobra Convertible, and I loved the sound - it was perfect. But it was also impossible to have any conversation at freeway speeds - with the side exhaust, rag top, etc. So on to a quieter and faster 03 I went :D .

I contacted the guys ar Roush and they told me the systems they use are Magnaflow now, but mine was probably Dynomax. I'm wondering.. if I use some combination of Magnaflow or Dynomax, will I get the same sound as before - only - since the exhaust exits out back - will it be significantly quieter inside - than it was before? I have only heard one other modified 03, it had Bassini which was too raspy for my taste (no offense to all you Bassini guys. It may have had an offroad X, and baffles may have been removed, I don't know for sure.)

Does anyone who lives in the Northwest (say Washington state or western Oregon) have a Magnaflow, or Dynomax or Bassini (with cats and baffles)system on their 03 I could listen to? I'd be thrilled to make a trip to listen to your ride - at your timing and convenience! I'm not planning to put on headers, just everything backwards from there.

If you are comfortable with this, send me an email and maybe we can meet for a burger somewhere.

The subject of exhaust power and sound is a frequent thread on this forum, I appreciate the help. There are so many opinions and options, I've concluded I just need to hear the products first.

I have the Bassani Xpipe and Cat back on my 03 Cobra Convertible. The sound level at cruising speeds is not distracting and you can easily carry on a conversation and/or listen to your favoriate tunes.

My buddy who also has a an 03 Cobra Convertible is going to switch from the Borla Stinger to the Bassani because of the distraction of the drone at cruising speeds.

If you want it loud like your Roush you will need the Borla Stingers as mentioned or the Magnaflow Magnapacks. The side exit from Roush is better than stock but still very tame.

It took me 4 systems to find satisfaction:
    1. Stock - too tame
    2. FR500 - same as stock, IMHO
    3. QMP complete 3" system - too loud, and too many leaks
    4. Borla stinger (with stock H pipe) - PERFECTION

    But that's just me.

I think if you liked the sound of your Roush, you would love the Magnaflow.....

Roush basically changed over to Magnaflow not only due to the better hp numbers, but because we were able to keep that nice deep tone, but also get rid of the drone as well all at a reasonable price.....

Borla and Bassani make a good product too, but unless you MUST have the Borla or Bassani sound, they are a little too expensive IMHO, for what you get.

I have a 04 Cobra conv. with bassani x pipe and magnaflow cat back. It has a loud drone inside. I have even switched to flowmasters, but the magnaflow sounds much deeper. Any suggestions of how to quiet some of the inside noise?
