200 to a 390

    i want to convert a I6 to a 390 though i don't know what to do... i know that i will have to do some cutting to put the big block in but nothing detailed

    i know i will have to do the regular stuff to convert to a V8 but what do i have to do for a big block

    You shouldn’t have to cut anything as the 390 was an option in 67. You will need big block engine mounts. I think that the radiator is larger. You will need to make sure the tranny can handle it. With an automatic and stock tires the 8in should be fine. Even though I love my 390 why would you want to convert to a 390? They are heavy and parts are very expensive. I think a stroked 351 would be a better choice. If you want a big block go with a 427.

    thank you for the 351 is a cleveland or a winsor better? i just bought a 67 and i'm working on it will some other old stang rebuilders though me being younger then them makes me want a bigger engine
    a couple of them say put a 289 or a 302 but i have been reading and people say that a 351 is good

    390 parts are not expensive. What is , is finding all the correct parts to install it in a Stang. The motor mounts will run you over $100. You'll also need a better transmisson, rearend ( 390 will shread an 8" in no time) suspension, brakes............... the list goes on. With a 351 W or C, the mounts are reasonable, but you'll still need to upgrade the rest of the undercarriage.

    Go with the 351W, parts are cheaper and more plentiful. A well built roller 302 would still be a lot of fun, and parts are cheapest and most plentiful.
