I just got the 2.80 SLP pulley, belt, and a SLP specific Diablosport Predator II tuner. My question is: Do I half to take it to a dyno to dial it in, or will the tuner do the job for me? I understand to get the absolute most performance a dyno may be nessessary, but I just dont want to tear up anything by just using the tuner.
Depends on if you like to gamble or not... you a gambling man? You don't have to do anything, but personally I wouldn't be able to sleep at night without know for sure what my AFR is. Who did you buy this stuff from? Was this combo of parts bought as a kit, or something you threw together? Do you have ANY other mods on the car right now? (CAI, C/B, Mid Pipe, Etc.) Yes to get the absolute performance out of your mods you need to get the car on a dyno and have it fine tuned because no two cars respond exactly the same. Again, I wouldn't be as worried about extracting the maximum potential from these mods as I would be ensuring the combination is safe and won't burn up the motor due to a lean AFR. The Predator tuner is a nice piece of equipment, but on a pullied & modified Cobra it should primarily be used as a device to transfer custom tunes from a professional into the ECM of the car. U.M.
Predator pulley tune is pretty good out of the box. BUT I would have it dynoed. You could learn an extremely expensive lesson
The stock Predator pulley tune is designed for a 2.93, CAI & cat-back I believe. It's pretty conservative and safe enough to get you to a dyno to have it properly tuned. Benny is EXACTLY right... nothing like ENSURING everything is what it should be! The Black Cobra is saying his Predator comes from SLP and I'm thinking it MAY come with a custom tune (not the stock built-in pulley tune) which may be specifically made for the mods shipped. That's why I asked him if this was a packaged deal and if he already had other mods on the car... U.M.
any time you make a mod, you should get a dyno tune, how are you going to know your running a safe a/f not worth the risk
I bought these parts from Summit racing separately, but they are the EXACT same ones from SLP's website. The predator comes with 4 SLP specific custom tunes. Here is an exerpt from the website: Programmer, 2003-04 Cobra PCM Handheld 4-Stage SLP Custom Tuned DiabloSport II This portable, easy-to-use unit allows you to fine-tune a wide range of computer-controlled powertrain functions for maximum power and drivability. Manipulate rev limiters; correct your speedometer for non-stock gear ratios and tire sizes; remove the factory top-speed governor; and moreāall in minutes and at the touch of a button. Designed specifically for 2003-2004 SVT Cobra applications, part #M27000 comes pre-programmed with a selection of ultra-hot SLP custom tunes: Low-Boost 1 (use with stock pulley and MAF) Low-Boost 2 (use with stock pulley and SLP MAF) High-Boost 1 (use with SLP pulley and stock MAF) High-Boost 2 (use with SLP pulley and SLP MAF) The only pulley SLP sells on there website is the 2.80, so I think the tuner is programmed for it. The only other mods I have are an SLP loud mouth cat back and K&N FIPK (just the cone filter, I am not going to change the MAF.
If I was you I would install the pulley and new belt, upload the tune, then get to a dyno ASAP WITHOUT getting into any boost and have your AFR checked. Our motors are just too valuable to risk it. You don't need to get a custom dyno tune, just do a pull or two to ensure the AFR is where it should be. U.M.
