I am breaking down the build data for the 2004 model year Crimson Red 40th anniversary cars. On October 7, 2003, the engine code and VIN changed specifying some major change to the V-6 engine. If you have a 4 in the VIN for the engine, you have the old one. 6 replaced it. Not sure what the change was. Anyone know? Thanks.
Ahh, nevermind, Wikipedia. Ford Essex V6 engine (Canadian - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia) 3.8-->3.9 change. If your 2004 was built on or before 10/7/03, you have a 3.8. If it was built on or after 10/7/03, you have the 3.9. Built on 10/7? Check the VIN. See my previous note. Powertrain VIN code of of 4 is the 3.8, 6 is the 3.9.
