Ive read that this car is capable of hiting 160+ mph but is limited to 149mph by the governor. WTF kind of BS is this Is there a way without voiding the factory/extended waranty to disable this "governor"
I believe you can temporarily disable it by pulling the speedo fuse... I would highly recommend you not do that though for obvious reasons
I had the rev limiter kick in at 6200 rpm or so, and I can tell you it's a bit disconcerting. It powers down a little and just feels weird. Once you get to know your car that shouldn't happen, and I'm glad it's only happened to me once. The "problem" is the GT is just as smooth at 6000 rpm as it is at 4000 rpm , and unless you're watching the tach you can over-rev between shifts. If you time it right you get a very rewarding chirp on the upshift. Seriously, though, if you want to drive 149 mph, I suggest a track...
Who gives a damn if it goes 149 or 249mph? Are you ever gonna go that fast on streets? If you plan to, I hope that the limiter DOES kick in, and that it blows your engine, so that you don't kill anyone with the car.
What are we doing buying V8 Mustangs for? Take a note from i4power and trade in for a 4 banger NOW because after all we shouldn't drive over 65 mph!
I hate governors... I'm guilty of a little late night top speed run on the interstate. Haven't done it in a while, and have only done it twice, but it can be real fun, and scare the **** out of you at the same time..
You guys are freaking out like this is something new and its only an 11mph difference anyway. Besides at least 95% of you will probably never drive 149mph let alone 160. For those who do aftermarket chips normally eliminate things like that.
Why are people so afraid of speed? Don't project 'your' fears of high speed, or lack of ability to choose when and where to display said speed, onto others. There are plenty of places - at least in the state I live in, where bringing a car to 150mph+ would only take about a mile or two of straight road.
I am not afraid of speed, as long as I'm the one behind the wheel. What I am afraid of is the rest of you blowing down a road at 150+ and running into me.
If you dont like speed then what are you doin on a MUSTANG forum!?? go find yourself a VW Forum KIDDO
Just get a hypertech or a chip and that will raise the rpm governer. However with 3:90's or 4:10's you shouldnt have a problem reaching 160.
Uhhh....no. The top speed of the car is NOT goverened by the rev limiter. And......it's pretty stupid to deliberately over rev an engine. The '05 is goverend for speed AND rpm. I'm not fully informed on the gearing on the '05, but my guess is that in 5th one would hit the speed limiter well before the rev limiter. If 4th it's probably a toss up. The '03/'04 Cobras are speed limited at 155-160. I initially thought that was due to the chassis getting "light" at those speeds, but that's not the case. It's due to the tire ratings and concerns on driveshaft integrity. My guess is that it's probably similar on the new Mustang.
OK wiseguy, how about telling us what the stopping distance of a 2005 Mustang is from 149 MPH? While you have your calculator out you might as well calculate the kenetic energy that a 3750 lb '05 Mustang with driver that is traveling at 149 MPH unleashes when it hits something.
I don't mind someone driving 100+ miles an hour late at night, what I do mind is when someone tries to drive that fast in the middle of the day when I'm just trying to get from point A to point B in a reasonable amount of time safely.
